Development:Team Fortress 2 - "More links instead of code snippets"

- Instead of a ton of huge long code snippets, I was thinking it would be better to link to chunks of code in the repo instead, that's all. But I may go back on that self-imposed rule and do large snippets 👍 4️04️UNF 💬 ✏️ 17:38, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
"Source Developer Repo"
Hey, I'm the same person you thanked for the TF2 Open Beta Dedicated Server addition. It's nothing much but I'm glad it's of use.
On the Handy Pardner section of the Prerelease page, you mention that this screenshot comes from a staging build compiled from the "Source Developer Repo".
I was wondering what exactly is that about? Is it an official source of content? The screenshot itself looks like it could a reskin of the HUD.
I don't doubt your content of course, but this makes me curious. I haven't heard of the "Source Developer Repo" before, unless that maybe is Valve's repository "offered" to Source Engine Partners?

- It's a bit confusing to discuss but essentially it's a repository that contains source code for Valve games along with various development assets that haven't been released to the public. You pay a $2500 license fee for access to the repo, and formerly a $25,000 fee for a Havok physics license which has recently been waived thanks to a partnership between Valve and Microsoft. The repo's got all sorts of early/unseen content in it but you have to sign an NDA as part of the signup. That hasn't stopped people from leaking contents of the repo as evidenced by the tweets on my twitter where I show off stuff from it. 👍 4️04️UNF 💬 ✏️ 01:10, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- oh and that screenshot is from a build of tf2 that was compiled from the April 2020 code leak, along with repo assets that the compiler may have had access to. He was streaming himself playing the build and testing hidden staging build content, that's why the screenshot is in such bad quality. 👍 4️04️UNF 💬 ✏️ 01:11, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- Replying here so you can reply at your own convenience; I find it quite surprising but does that essentially mean that a Source Developer Repository access provides you, under the discretion of a Non-Disclosure Agreement, with the source code of Valve's Source games? JPG and ANI files
Hello again. On the Postal III build of TF2's page, you mentioned:
"I forgot why .jpg and .ani files are listed in some .lst files, or rather, why specifically they were generated. Could have been something related to the particular software Valve used when creating the models, but I can't remember."
According to this Valve Developer Wiki page, ANI files are generated when a model has the $animblocksize QC parameter set.
As for the JPEG files, they were used in Hammer before the introduction of the new VGUI model browser. I believe all of Half-Life 2's assets have JPEG files. – FoxMcCloud45 (talk) 14:47, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
September 2007 Beta
I downloaded the GCFs, extracted them but the game tries to start regular TF2. Renamed the folder, put it in the Team Fortress 2 directory, created a shortcut, doesn't work, had to directly extract startup_loading from hl2's VPKs. Still doesn't work because it says "Could not load library client. Try restarting. If that doesn't work, verify the cache.". Any fixes? L337 KR3W (talk) 16:34, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

- Go right ahead. I don't recall if I finished uploading all the changed backpack icons though. The official TF2 Wiki will have the rest. I may also have a zip file of them on my PC somewhere. Your Other TF2 Sandbox Pages.
Hello me again. Would it be okay of me to move your remaining Team Fortress 2 sandboxes into the article? (namely PrereleaseTeamFortress2, TF2FileListings and TeamFortress2Notes)
I'll probably merge the notes and file listings into a notes page and put the prerelease stuff into a subpage in the existing page. I'm not entirely sure if the notes/filename stuff is quite ready to be moved yet, but the prerelease stuff I definitely feel more certain about.

- Feel free to, but you can ignore that file listing page. That was just a personal project of mine that doesn't belong on the TF2 article anywhere.
