This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Like everything lmao
  • Use the Terraria wiki and archive.org links for info
  • Find other(worldly) media pertaining to the game, possibly concept art or gameplay that was not featured from those sites is possible

Terraria Otherworld was intended as the first spin-off of the massively popular Terraria. Rather than being an open-world sandbox, it was going to be a more like a role-playing game with light tower defence. It was cancelled in April of 2018 apparently due to the results being unsatisfactory.

It wasn’t totally all in vein, as music from the game was later added in the Journey’s End update of Terraria in 2020.

Music

The music is the only part of the game that has been archived, fully preserved, and for the public to view. It can be listened on YouTube for free and can be purchased on Steam as DLC to core Terraria. The music was brought into core Terraria as "Otherworldly" tracks that can be enabled through the Party Girl NPC when visiting a world with the drunk world seed, 05162020 (North American date of version 1.4's release), 16052020 (European date of version 1.4's release), and clicking on the "Music" option when her dialogue is brought up. This music for Terraria Otherworld (albeit modified to compress more easily for storage) will replace the original music and will be set throughout the whole game. To change this music, right click a Party Girl when she is present in a world, and click on the "Music" option again to revert to the default music.

Overview

Official Website

"Re-Logic and Engine Software have combined forces to develop the next progression in the open world/sandbox arena: Terraria: Otherworld. Expanding upon the immensely popular action-sandbox title Terraria, exploring what might have been, and approaching gameplay in a new direction; Terraria: Otherworld represents a novel take on the Terraria experience. Set in an alternate dimension within the Terraria universe, Terraria: Otherworld places the player in a life-and-death struggle to restore a once-pristine world – now overrun by a malevolent force that has corrupted nature itself – to its original splendor. Combining elements of sandbox gameplay with role-playing and strategy elements, Terraria: Otherworld explores the Terraria experience in an innovative and unique way - providing a fresh approach to the “open world” genre. Watch this space for further details as development progresses!"

Concept Art

Hmmm...
To do:
There is more on the Terraria wiki listed above, add them

Several different concept art and sprites of things in the game exist here, let's rummage through them:

  • An enemy named the Spawnpod, which looks to be inspired directly from the Alien franchise from how it looks to spawn (ba-dum-psh).
  • The second image shows several different enemies, including some identified later as the "Crimson Eater" and the "Corruption Poison Bag".
  • Within the same image are some enemies with unknown names, such as some floating Crimson-related eating-thing by the player, what looks like a lesser version of the Crimson Eater, a Corruption-related enemy with multiple eyes that shoots a laser beam, a corruption-related bug monster that looks like it shoots poison of some sort, a magenta dinosaur that spits fire and seems to be inspired by an unused badnik from Sonic 2 named Redz, what appears to be a flying fox-inspired enemy with a striking a resemblance to the Duolingo owl for some reason, and a distinct enemy that looks like a buffed wraith with 2 swords with blood on them.
  • This third sheet is labeled "Quest Items", and it shows a sapling, a gold axe, spellbooks(?), flags, a satellite, a tooth(?), solitaire cards with specific numbers and shapes, locks, more spellbooks(?), some sort of bloody wreath(?), a string thing, a womannequin(?), some sort of ice-related furniture, a large page, something that is able to placed that looks like it's from the corruption, another page but with a heart on it, a certificate of some sort, a piece of cheese with a flag of the Netherlands, a potato, pizza, mushroom soup, silk, a worn page, a stick, and a few more spellbooks?
  • A fourth sheet shows banners, trophies, and weapon racks. The weapon racks show in order, a sword, a bow, a spear, a shotgun, two swords, daggers, or knives, dynamite, a magic wand of sort, and what looks like a spellbook. The banners get interesting, as they show what looks like some sort of head of a robotic enemy, a trident, an eye which could possibly be related to a boss that the OST mentions "OctoEye", what looks like a jellyfish but is possibly the "Crimother" (as seen in a later trailer), a twig, and some fortress-looking boss icon on the last banner. The trophies are an enigma, as they could also be bosses while the banners could be minibosses, but who knows. The trophies show some sort of bug head, what looks like a monster with flesh-like horns with four eyes, a fleshy bug-like crimson-related boss which can be seen on the right but beheaded, some sort of yeti-like creature, and perhaps the final boss of the game. It is notable that one music theme of the game is titled "Rage of Tarunnk", which could relate to any of these aforementioned banners or trophies.
  • Fifth sheets shows a lot of potions. There appears to not only be 4, but 5 different tiers of potions to restore health or mana. Ambiguous purple potions appear here, as well as an orange, yellowish orange, lime green, magenta, and dark orange potions are present. Older ones such as the stink, restoration, ironskin, mining, gravity, and what looks like the lifeforce potions return. Honey and water bottles, a cocktail, jar, and what looks like coffee seems to exist, too. There is also an empty bucket, a filled bucket of water, and lava alongside the mass amount of potions. Finally, there is also mushrooms, a large heart and mana crystal, a hammer, another mana crystal, heart and mana pickups, the bombfish, a spiky bomb, a regular bomb, dynamite, glowsticks, a long hotdog in a bun, grenades, a rope and rope coil, and what looks like some sort of bloody projectile.
  • The UFO mount gets a redesign!
  • Different furniture of what looks like oak, boreal, rich mahogany(?), palm, steampunk, and an unknown cyan colored furniture set.
  • Seems like the developers had the armor planned out for progression. The recognizable sets appears as: copper, tin, silver, shadow, cactus, gold, titanium(?), Jim's set is now armor apparently, palm, crimson, frost, tiki, and what looks like molten armor. All of the rest are unknown, but it should be known that Otherworld introduces more ores such as zinc, nickel, promethium, and silicon, so there may be some armor here we don't know that uses those materials.
  • A detailed overview of the Crimson Eater.
  • A detailed overview of the Corruption Poison Bag.
  • A detailed overview of the "sword guy" that looks like a wraith.
  • Detailed drawings of sharks. One looks like it has the style of the piranha gun. It is notable that there is an enemy added called the "Super Shark", so this could be concept art for it.
