E3 2006 Presentation

WiiSports-TempLogoe3.PNG

  • A temporary logo with a more basic font is used.
  • Only tennis, baseball and golf are mentioned as being parts of the package, with airplane being excluded. It's possible this is because airplane wasn't

guaranteed to be a part of the package, as seen in the IGN interview below.

100x

  • The on-stage demo version of tennis uses a simpler "3 points to win" scoring system instead of the proper tennis scoring system used for the show-floor demo.
  • Miis of Satoru Iwata, Reggie Fils-Aime and Shigeru Miyamoto are used as the first example of how Miis can be used as custom avatars.
  • The winner of a contest allowing an E3 attendee to play the game on stage is represented by an all-blue Mii with a question mark face and a crown.

  • When a rally ends, the camera moves to focus on the player responsible for ending the rally.
  • A different announcer is used.

Title Screens

Each sport used for the E3 2006 demo has its own title screen.

Katsuya Eguchi E3 2006 IGN Interview

  • When asked about how the airplane demo fits into the package, Eguchi states he's not sure if it'll make it into the final game. He also says he thinks it will become a part of the Wii Sports series rather than a Pilotwings game.
  • When asked about whether Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will be implemented into Wii Sports, he says they aren't planning on including one, but a leaderboard system using WiiConnect24 is being planned, though this ended up not being included in the final game.

Press Kit Images

The press kit images for Wii Sports appear to be based on the September 2006 demo, and they contain some slight differences from the final game. These images are also used for the North American, European, and Australian box art.

Tennis

WS-PressKit-Tennis.jpg

  • The Nintendo logo is used instead of the Wii Sports logo on the wall/net.
  • The Miis are all using gray tennis rackets, which in the final game, are only used for CPU players. None of the Miis shown are CPU Miis in the final game.

Baseball

WS-PressKit-Baseball.jpg

  • The signboard texture layout is the same as the E3 2006 demo.
  • The team logos on the scoreboard are also from E3 2006.
  • Oddly, three different team colors are shown. The batter is green, the pitcher is yellow, and the outfielders are red. In the final game, the outfielder colors match the pitching team.
  • The trees and building in the background are missing.
  • The textures and skybox are much brighter than the final game.
