Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series

Developer: Telltale Games
Publisher: Telltale Games
Platform: Windows
Released internationally: April 18, 2017

DevTextIcon.png This game has hidden development-related text.
TextIcon.png This game has unused text.

Current goal: organize. hopefully another big edit tonight, including separating the episode pages.

A point 'n' click adventure game based off Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Is it based off the comics or the movies? Who knows!

todo list:

  • holy moley my grammar is bad. i need sleep :s.
  • separate the developer text (+ context) from unused text. it'll be easier in the actual articles, which i should probably go and make a temporary one of.
  • Get icons up. Find out if I can use the cropped UI elements that work well but ~were~ modified
  • Find descriptions for all of these episodes. Current ones are temps because the placeholder text was l a m e
  • Flesh out the Batman section. Get files from Batman and see whats different with the codex. Was the Thanos thing always there? Is the French translation the same?
  • Get the basics of the Episode 1 and 2 pages down. Make the sections done by the filenames I suppose, add a description of where the files would be referenced.
  • Upload the original texts (and find out if i can do that even)
  • Find out what is actually unreleased in the dialog proper (let's plays will help a lot)
  • Get literally anything beyond dialog files for the article. Poke around the .lua ones perhaps. Can you even decode .scene files? Where are the UI elements hidden? Is there a not annoying way to view models and textures? Why are there no environment textures????? Ugh.

doublecheck this

Line 450:

211)
Hold [Ctrl] and use [Up Arrow] to use Jet Boots!

The game uses Q to activate the Jet Boots by default.

doublecheck this too. is there an option for this in the settings?

ui_codex_english.landb

In the dialog file for the in-game codex, the entirety of the codex from Batman: The Telltale Series exists, albeit in a different text format. The file contains placeholders of reasonable warnings about Thanos.

Line 80:

10)
Thanos Bad

Watch out!

He’s really bad.

Line 1144:

Thanos is bad
He is Bad

Episode 1

env_temple_exterior.landb

The dialog file for the exterior of the temple name at the start of the game. This file contains a very, very large amount of duplicated dialog. A lot of used lines have at least 3 copies.

Line 509:

72) STUB THE
(Modianslly Maloney, Mon Aug 29 15:00:05 2016) Peter says hmm.

This is the earliest developer note in all the dialog files, done 27 days after Episode 1 of Batman: The Telltale Series.

1192) DIRSTUB
(bfreyermuth, Fri Nov 4 16:25:13 2016) Gamora calls you up all upset. Peter, what are you doing in there, just futzing around?
1193) GAMORA
[VOP comm][frustrated]You all right in there?
1194) GAMORA
[VOP comm][frustrated]Are you just messing around?

This plays if the player takes too long investigating the temple. Text like this exists for all characters, but Gamora is the only one to have developer input on it.

1249) DISTUB
(bfreyermuth, Fri Nov 4 15:53:28 2016) I am Groot.

No dialog around this features the line.

1329) PSTUB
(bfreyermuth, Thu Nov 10 16:29:08 2016) These lines are if Peter walks up to an object and needs to interrupt when the character is talking. Make sure each of these is a version of “I’ll call you back.“ Very important that they say the player will call them back, because that’s the only way to start the conversation again. We’ll need like ten of these.
1330) PETER
Oop, hang on. I’ll call ya back.
1331) PETER
Hold up a sec. I’ll ring you back.
1332) PETER
Hey, I gotta call you back.
1333) PETER
Wait a minute. I’ll hit you back.

Only 4 of these lines exist in-game.

Line 3133:

1505) PETER
Got the panel open, but there’s a bunch of unlabeled buttons in here.
1506) PETER
Yeah, what was that order again?
1507) ROCKET
[VOP comm]White, blue, orange, blue, blue.
1508) ROCKET
[VOP comm]Then the big button fires.
1509) ROCKET
[VOP comm]Ya gotta push ‘em in the correct order.
1510) ROCKET
[VOP comm]White, blue, orange, blue, blue. Then the big button to shoot.
1511) ROCKET
[VOP comm]Don’t, uh, ask how I know that.
1512) PETER
[alt]How do I make the guns go, y’know, “Pew pew pew”?
1513) ROCKET
[VOP comm]Or the handy acronym -- “Wbob” -- W.B.O.B.B.

At some point the Nova Corps gun you shoot to blast open the door required a specific button sequence to use. In the final game it is simply one button.

1593) DDI
R:(zkeller, Tue Dec 13 13:11:53 2016) Peter looks at the door, then up at the ship gun. We can see it might work. He taps his comm.
1594) DIRIR
(zkeller, Tue Dec 13 13:11:53 2016) Peter looks at the door, then up at the ship gun. We can see it might work. He taps his comm.
1597)
Rocket, how do I use the ship’s guns?

A version of this dialog exists later on, but this specific line is never said ingame.

1620) HORE
(sainsworth, Sat Jan 7 09:26:47 2017) Probably skip this line:
1621) GAMORA
[ironic] Always such an inspiration, Peter.
