WIP article for Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker will go here

Stuff to document:

List of unused monster names left in the code Description of how the behaviour when forcing an encounter with these unused monsters is different in English and Japanese Comparison table of the names in both languages, which ones are dummies out in eng

Beta protagonist model Scans from the artbook showing the same character design

Beta DQM gbc merchant model Comparison to the character in the original game and remake to prove that's what it is

Terminology change of G-Pit to Scoutpost meant a change in the logo that appears above them all. Comparison of Japanese Vs English Vs unused third design seen in pre release material.

Japanese art book interview information showing early screenshot of catching monsters with magical cards instead of a ring, early concept art of using a fishing rod even before the cards. Interview about how the game was first conceived as a direct sequel to DQM2 starring the town of DeadTree and an open world style gameplay. Early screenshots of the 2.5D style and Terry as protagonist. "The protagonist's name is Cool-kun" factoid, and pointing out the internal files still use this name, even though later games changed his name to Joker.

Japanese version has two additional image files, whenever protagonist's dad sends him a letter there's an actual letter image and these were changed to text box only in the dub.

Japanese version had monster genders and monster breeding same as every other DQM game, dub for some reason changed it to "magnetic polarity" and "synthesis". Possible reason for the change: Japanese version having neutral genders and the symbol for it being similar to the real world intersex pride symbol, main monster Incarnus being genderless in Japanese and changed to male in English. Japanese version also has approx ten times more randomized nicknames for every monster, three sets for each gender, as opposed to just 2-4 in English. How the English version actually does have a gender set for every monster but it's at the species level instead of individual, and every monster is male except She-Slime and Empyrea How She-Slime isn't ever said to be female only in japanese

Black Jacques doesn't have a name tag in Japanese, simply referred to as CELL Grunt.

Metal Ticket item and the rewards for completing the monster library are dub only, and the respective NPCs who hand these things out were also not in Japanese. Interview snippet showing that these were planned and supposed to be included in Japanese but development didn't have time to finalize them (show dummy item screenshot), they were finished for the international version.

Translation mistake in the item Darkewel (Majewel) which is just called Darkonium (Majulite) in English even though the Japanese description says the whole reason you can sell it for money is because it's NOT Darkonium.

Headhunter and Berserker monsters had a blackface design in Japanese, was edited in the dub. All future DQM games use the edited design from this point on, even ones only released in Japan.

Interface redesign changes in the dub: resizing, switching text to images, changing bestiary text box to three lines and then never using the third line, inexplicable different shade of purple in one screen only.

Comparison of Japanese and English names, how all the English names were given a unified theme of card game puns

Japanese items "Naughty Mag", "Pretty Mag" and "Deviant Bible" changed to Plus/Minus/Neutral Book.

The mystery of the random egg looking thing in the final dungeon that looks like Dr Snapped one room before Dr Snap even turns into Dr Snapped and is never explained. It's a separate model in the files, not part of the background model. But would it be pointless to describe an oddity here that's never been solved and should we save it for when someone actually does find out what it is?

"The OOOO Room" Find a way to explain wtf it is using proper website terminology Un-terminology'd version: if you use cheats to walk through walls and access a blocked off area early, you find almost every NPC's dialogue is replaced with an infinite string of "OOOOOO" But interestingly there are some npcs with actual dialogue, unused early versions of the final script. Cover the one I've found so far, the "Dr Snap mumbles a lot" guy (not very interesting lol) Would it be ok to ask for help of other people to check around in this and see if they find anything else? Am I allowed to put instructions of how to access the area? Document the differences between English and Japanese: JPN = precisely enough OOOOs to fill a text box, ENG = infinite OOOOs that go offscreen and glitch out the entire environment. Conclusion: this was probably a test message to see how many characters a text box can hold, and something about the dubbing process broke it.

Would it be okay to have a section about how Dr Snap's personality and motivations were drastically changed in the English script? Cos it's not just one line to compare, it's more of a general "the entire story changed". So maybe just a short summary and then a link off-site to the full text comparisons by Nejimakipiyo?

Prerelease Info
Early info and changes.

Prototype
Prototype information revealed in the DQM 25th Anniversary Monster Master Memories artbook interview.

(Can a page be called Prototype if it's a situation like this? Where we don't have a dumped ROM of this build, only developers describing what it was? Or should this just be merged with prerelease info page even though it's more like post-release info...?)
