Nintendo podjęło nietypową decyzję o wydaniu Super Mario Bros. 2 w Japonii ponad 4 lata po premierze w USA pod tytułem Super Mario USA (spowodowane to było faktem, że Super Mario Bros. 2 wydane w Japonii było zupełnie inną grą, którą w USA potem wydano jako The Lost Levels jako część Super Mario All-Stars). Oprócz zmodyfikowanego ekranu tytułowego jest ono identyczne z amerykańską rewizją 1.
