Toobin' (NES)
Toobin' |

Developer: Tengen This game has unused areas. This game has a Lua scripts page |
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? |
Toobin' is a very limited port of the arcade game. Featuring exclusive rivers, and 9 classes instead of 6!

Unused Rivers
Moldau
Game Genie code to replace first river of class 1 with: PPONLZAA
A almost-empty version of the Black Forest river using the Canals of Mars music hence the name, presumably for testing music during development. Oddly enough there is a spike to the left at the start of the river and still can be hit by a can normally.
Slimy Zone
Game Genie code to replace first river of class 1 with: TPONLZAA
An early version of Cuprum using Argentum music, but has pipes from Argentum except the slime doesn't come out. Instead of a beach ball there is a can.
Unused Graphics
Font
The alphabet has a dagger graphic, BACK and END despite not having a name entry screen, and a star. The letter Q is not in one of the texts.
Early Copyright
Present in the tilemap of the Tengen Presents screen.
Unused Music
Unknown purpose, though probably for Jurassic river, which reused the music for Amazon and Brontosauri which is one of the rivers that share background music. Game Genie codes PAUEGPAE and LPUETOGA (or setting 0x614C to 09 and 0x614E to 13 in the ROM) allow it to be heard on Jurassic river by replacing with that music.
Partially Unheard Jingle
The "player down" jingle sound has a length of 10.4 seconds but only 2.2 seconds of it are normally heard before going back to the transition screen. However pausing for a brief moment while the sound is still playing and resuming will let you hear more part of this sound.
Unused Sounds
Original samples | Actual samples |
---|---|
This game has 2 DPCM sounds for the cow ox in Rio Grande/Rio Del Oro (0x01C010) and the demon's laugh in Styx (0x01D010) respectively that are never used nor played in game. Also the samples are incorrectly formatted due to reversed bit order.
Sound code | Sound effect | Dedicated stopper code | Looping? |

29 | No | ||
3E | 3F | No | |

The credits screen is supposed to have a total of 14 pages, but due to an oversight only 3 pages are used. Page 4 is terminated with 0xFFFF whereas page 5 is 0x5085 (where page 4 should belong). The above IPS patch restores it to how it intended to be, allowing all 14 pages to be viewed.
