A very large amount of unseen objects for The Sims 2 were left in the files of Castaway Stories. They are located in TSData\Res\Objects, in which there are subfolders for EP1 (University), EP2 (Nightlife), EP3 (Open for Business), EP6 (Bon Voyage), and EP7 (FreeTime), each containing a TestObjects subfolder containing these objects. They appear to be a mix of objects used for testing the game, and unfinished prototypes for scrapped content in the expansions. Each object is listed below under it's package filename.

EP1 (University)

CostumeTrunk

The placeholder asset for the Costume Trunk, with a Sim wearing the "Toga" outfit.

Object name: Challenge - Costume Trunk

A costume trunk was planned, similar to the one in The Sims: House Party, and can be used by Young Adults-and-older Sims. It uses the Dynasty Dresser 2 mesh as a placeholder. Available costume options appear to be Cowboy, Mobster, Musketeer, SciFi, Shakespeare, and Toga. There's also an interaction to change back into Everyday wear. None of the actual outfits are implemented, so each option changes Sims into a placeholder one:

  • Musketeer: Social Bunny
  • Toga: Grim Reaper
  • Shakespeare: Llama Mascot
  • Cowboy: Skeleton
  • Mobster: Maid
  • SciFi: Astronaut

Of these costume themes, only togas made into the final release. They are outfits that Sims will wear for the Greek House-exclusive Toga party.

This object seems to tie-in with the Acting_CostumeTrunk object below. It's unknown if this object was planned to be associated with the Drama major, the Showbusiness career, or even the scrapped "Drama Club" (see below). Unlike most of these objects, this one has a placeholder catalog name and description.

Object name Acting - Costume Trunk

This object appears to control unique interactions a Sim can do when they are wearing a specific costume: Tough Guy (Mobster), Brandish Sword (Musketeer), Orate (Shakespeare), Rope Tricks (Cowboy), Soliloquize (Toga), and Take Readings (SciFi). There are references to Sims being able to teach other Sims, possibly allowing them to pass on the ability to perform the interaction without wearing the costume.

ClubMaster

Object name: __University - Club Cheat Object

A unfinished controller for social clubs that Sims can be members of. There are BHAVs to add and remove Sims from a club, modify the club, and references to some kind of ranking system that goes from -5 to 5 (but skips 0, oddly). Planned clubs were the Secret Society, Gaming Club, Band, Robo-Battle Club, X-Sports Team, The Drama Club, Cooking Club, Frat, and Soro. The last two appear to be late additions as the strings for them come well beyond all the others. Some of the text strings have no relevance and are identical to the NewMemoryManager test object, which may suggest that this object was cloned from it. Certain text strings are very odd and random, with expressions such as "I hate life" and "go to hell".

Exteriors for clubhouses can be seen in concept art for The Sims 2: University. Ultimately, only the Secret Society and Fraternities/Sororities made it into in the final product, but not as part of any kind of club system. The concept of clubs wouldn't be implemented into the series until The Sims 4: Get Together.

NewMemoryManager

Object name: _Memory Manager - New - Test Object A debug object for adding memories, as well as adding wealth, modifying relationships, and killing Sims. The Effect Names list makes many references to memories that don't exist in the final game, as well as memories of different strengths, which is a concept that was scrapped during development.

TableRPG

Sims playing the tabletop RPG while wearing outfits that match their role.

Object name: Table - RPG

An unfinished object for a tabletop RPG game that Young Adult-and-older Sims can play together. It uses the NuMica Allinall Card Table mesh as a placeholder, and requires chairs around the table for Sims to be able to play. They can take on the roles of Mage, Warrior, Thief, and of course the Gamemaster. Sims change into a unique outfit for each role, but they all seem to be placeholders:

  • Gamemaster: Astronaut Spacesuit
  • Warrior: Captain Hero
  • Mage: Medical Scrubs
  • Thief: Burglar

The base game does contain an unused "warrior" outfit that may have originally been conceived for this. The skin was ultimately given away to players in a promotion with GameSpot.

The object increases fun and Logic skill (there's no skill gain notification though). Sims have animations, and will randomly chat, cheer, and even belch while playing. Development on this object seems to have progressed pretty far along before being scrapped. Later expansions would include tabletop games for Sims to play, but not role-playing ones.

Despite the somewhat confusing name, this object has nothing to do with the lottery. It seems to be an object for testing behaviour and performance on community lots.

_ChronoblastProto

Object name: Chronoblast Proto

Appears to be an unfinished prototype for an object that could allow a Sim to change their age to child or toddler. It may have been intended as some sort of aspiration reward object to modify age, as the object can fail when Sims use it. It seems most of the effort went into developing the object's variety of grisly failure states; Sims could turn into a skeleton, catch fire and burn, become faceless or deformed, or most horrifying of all: go bald!

There is possible concept art of what this object may have been planned to look like. The portfolio for Stephen Kody, an artist who worked on The Sims 2, has concept art for unused objects intended for Nightlife.[1] An image depicts a mechanical bull object, as well as a large, scientific machine that unfortunately does not have any notes associated with it. It's possible that machine may have been planned to be an aspiration reward object, as it has five green light bulbs on its side, similar to how other aspiration objects in the game have light bulbs to denote their remaining uses. The machine features a slice of birthday cake on a raised plinth, and a screen displaying an analogue clock, suggesting that the machine may have been related to modifying age much like this prototype object.
