So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.

The Incredible Machine 3 (or, The Incredible Machine Version 3.0) is the third edition of the Sierra-published "puzzle game and construction kit," whose legacy continues with Contraption Maker. Version 3.0 upgraded the window environment past its original DOS confines.

Unused Music

The game plays MIDI tracks if the CD isn't inserted. The following tracks (originally from TIM2), which don't have a CD audio counterpart, were cut from the game.

  • RESOURCE.002\SX_1008.HMI - "Grunge"
  • RESOURCE.002\SX_1009.HMI - "Tropical Pop"
  • RESOURCE.002\SX_1010.HMI - "Blazooes"
  • RESOURCE.002\SX_1023.HMI - "Space Theme"

Unused Audio

  • RESOURCE.002\SX_3705.WAV - Professor Tim saying "Two"; a holdover from the Version 2 title screen.

Created Parts

The term "part" is used pretty loosely here.

There are four parts which are not ordinarily selectable, but which can be created by other parts while running a puzzle. These parts and their index numbers, as listed in Interface.tbv, are Phazer pulse (20), explosion (41), rope end (phantom) (49), and Peg (72). If hacked into a puzzle, each of these parts (except for the invisible rope end) will be placed and manipulatable like any other part, allowing their otherwise hidden descriptions to be read: each says simply "[CREATED PART]". Upon running a puzzle, the phazer pulse and explosion will immediately explode, and the peg (from a match-on-a-stick) will fall away. They interact normally: the pulse can pop balloons, the peg responds to anti-gravity, etc. The explosion continually replays an explosion sound effect when moused over. These parts will even appear in the Parts Bin if left unlocked in a puzzle, though since they have no image, they are nearly impossible to select.

Holiday-Specific Parts

If any Windows version of The Incredible Machine ran on certain dates, certain parts become selectable parts in the parts bin when creating custom contraptions.

Part Name Date of Availability Behavior Part Type(s) Set as Goal?
Cupid Valentine's Day (February 14) Like the blimp, without being destroyed like it, with the added ability to pop balloons. Misc. No
Leprechaun (Blarney O'Reilly) Saint Patrick's Day (March 17) Like other gravity parts but only activates (dances) when it receives a bump by something. Misc. Yes
Boris the Bat Halloween (October 31) Like a pool ball without air resistance, but flies around randomly when it receives a bump by something. Becomes permanently intangible for the rest of the simulation after that. Misc. No
Santa Claus Christmas (December 25) Like a plug-in variant of the lava lamp. Electric, Misc. Yes

Medium #48: The Swamp from The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions is the only puzzle in the game series to feature one of the four holiday-specific parts.
