The Sims is nothing but the Game of Life, and somehow managed to become one of the best selling PC games of all time.
Pictured here is an early interface mockup dating from 1997. Though the Sims themselves as well as the decor and objects seem to match those of the final game, the interface and shopping mode is completely rudimentary. The wall modes also seem to match that of the final game. The objects in the catalog in this image don't appear to have made it to the finished product.
