"Anti-piracy"

I feel like this is just a bad dump rather than an anti-piracy measure, really all I've got to back that up is a hunch though. Would someone be able to test this game on real hardware somehow? Preferably both via a real cartridge and via an Everdrive? I get the error screen in BlastEm (which is cycle-accurate) but not in other emulators like Genesis Plus GX, Kega Fusion, or PicoDrive. Sintax was doing weirdly in-depth copy protection on their GBA stuff so it's not too far-fetched MrMrMANGOMILK (talk) 22:36, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

Update on this: the Sonic Jam 6 dump on Sonic Retro actually works completely fine in BlastEm?? Exceedingly strange, further pointing to SM21998 being a bad dump. MrMrMANGOMILK (talk) 22:53, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
It's either becuz it's an unemulated anti-piracy scheme, or my GoodGEN rom set on my computer marks bad dumps with [!]. --SuperfishMEMZ (talk) 14:20, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
As far as I'm aware, [!] is actually intended specifically to denote verified good dumps. Could be unemulated anti-piracy, yeah. Maybe that Sonic Jam 6 dump was itself modified, I don't know for sure. MrMrMANGOMILK (talk) 22:16, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
Keep in mind that GoodTools has marked bad dumps as [!] in the past. I'm not sure they had any meaningful system for deciding if a ROM counted as verified or not. --Hiccup (talk) 16:24, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
