DEMO/VOX Scene Numbering Differences
The demo and vox file names are determined by the scene numbers Kojima & co. wrote in the game's script. For example demo s0104c1 has the header 【SCENE 01-4C ヘリ発信デモ】. The letters after "SCENE xx-x" indicate a switch to a different demo in the same scene. (SCENE 01-4B would have been the previous codec call.) It appears the script was written with the assumption that long scenes would be a continuous demo, for example s0205a1-s0205a4 is simply 【SCENE 02-5A DARPA局長デモ】 (with 02-4B again being the codec demo after the chief's death.
For those unfamiliar, I created a table of VOX file names to use as a guide when searching for specific lines. Since there's no Twin Snakes page yet, I included the numbers from its debug menu as well. All the lines The Twin Snakes inherited from MGS1 use the original names.

- This is pretty neat! Do you have access to the game's script? I figure there would be lots of scrapped stuff to cover from there, including missing polygon demos and codec conversation, along with gameplay scenes. I checked the TTS files, there's pretty interesting stuff hidden there, like a whole lot of unused Ocelot dialogue and some clean alternate takes without any soundtrack. Is it publicly available? I guess not, but can you at least share additional details? --Capelino (talk) 17:40, 5 September 2016 (EDT)
- Unfortunately, I only have access to the original documents (English and Japanese) used for the translations of MGS2 and Ghost Babel, though I do have copies of two different official MGS1 scenario books published in '98 and '05 respectively. The first is a collection of concept art/renders and the script for the main story. The second is text-only and is mostly unabridged, as it features the codec conversations as well. Both, however, seem to be made from different revisions. The '98 book is probably an earlier version, though there are things unique to both releases. Both also seem to be reformatted for publication (scenes were renumbered to fill gaps compared to what corresponds with the game's filenames, for example), though the '05 book is definitely edited more heavily. It's possible the '05 scenario was rewritten after the fact, judging by what I read of the '05 MGS2 book from the same series and comparing it to the original docs. Either way, I want this info to get out to the greater fanbase somehow so I've been working on transcribing both books (and others after I finish MGS1) but I'm a bit of a long way off from being finished with any of them for a while. --Jonathan Ingram (talk) 03:27, 20 November 2016 (EST)
