Opening VOL files
Anyone know what program can open the game's VOL files? I have tried DragonUnPACKer 5, as it listed VOL files as compatible, but it didn't work. Thanks in advance! --Pacifist 14:49, 10 March 2013 (EDT)
- It's called GT2Vol.exe, you can get it from here. There's some info on my userpage on what it unpacks, etc. Thefanman 22:41, 10 March 2013 (EDT)
Hidden Tracks
Removed my previous comment because just about everything save for Eigen Path and Palm Strip have been fully covered. Eigen Path is rumored to be the unused track seen in this video, and a low poly model of an apparent dragstrip can apparently be found in Laguna Seca's data. Specifically, you break out of the track's boundries (via Escudo or whatever car you can do it with), and then head towards the dotted part of the 'i' in "Continue" when you pause the game. Somewhere around there, a completely new section of track is loaded that, if I recall, may be the low detail model. -- Fuzn 12:53, 11 March 2013 (EDT)
- I'm fairly sure Eiger Path (yes, Eiger) is just an early name for Grindelwald. Not only is the real-life Grindelwald located near the mountain of Eiger (yup, the same Eiger from GT5), a track list in one magazine preview includes Eiger Path with Grindelwald nowhere to be found. Though the list seems to be rather early as it lacks Apricot Hill and contains the North American Roadway, which is presumably an oval track that can be found unused in one of the demos.
- I also took a closer look at the intro and the text definitely says "Eiger Path". Wonder where "Eigen Loop" came from. --Hukka 16:57, 13 March 2013 (EDT)
- The piece of geometry in the middle of Laguna Seca's continue looks like a reverse view of its first corner. I fudged the X-Y coords on one of the Tahiti tracks and there were random bits of its track scattered about out of bounds there too, so it seems to be a standard thing. dart_test2 (Fuzn's video above) and l_20 (has no geometry whatsoever, just collision data) are probably the only completely unused tracks in the game. I'll insert Xenn's youtube vids of them next time if nobody else has. Thefanman 18:42, 14 March 2013 (EDT)
- There's about two unused reverse tracks (Might be three, but I have a feeling it could be used), aswell as some unused License Test tracks. Oddly enough, the Japanese version has the least unused License Test tracks, while the US/EU versions have more of them. Would it be worth adding those to the article?--Xenn 13:02, 18 March 2013 (EDT)
Unused Cars/Regional differences
There is one more Car that is unused in the PAL/NTSC-U Versions : The Shelby GT500 KR (KR standing for King of the Road). But if I remember correctly, it can actually bought in the NTSC-J Version
Could somebody check that for me? -Andi36356 (talk) 11:09, 2 July 2014 (EDT)
Should we just remove the Arcade Mode/Simulation Mode subpages?
To be honest, would any moderator think that there's enough content for those two pages to sustain their own subpages? It looks like it could very easily inserted into the main article. Donetsu52 (talk) 1:05, 18 July 2015 (CST)
Palm Strip = Apricot Hill?
So, people who have been digging enough already know about the relationship between the "two tracks". In the PAL version, one of the license tests mentions Palm Strip, but takes place on Apricot Hill. l_plam is a license track that uses a segment of Apricot Hill. A magazine listed Palm Strip as a difficult 7 course, with no Apricot Hill in sight.
Now, I think that we have enough evidence that both are, and have always been the same track: digging into the usa_gtmode_race.dat file, I found the internal names of all races in the game. The Grand Valley 300km is called "EGV0001", the Seattle Circuit 100Miles is called "EST0001"... can you guess the name of Apricot Hill 200km? EPS0001. "PS" is clearly "Palm Strip", if you ask me.

Super License: Italian Translation Messed Up (Taken From An Unused Screen?)
Hello Everyone, I haven't seen it in the main page (nor in the bugs page), but the Italian translation of the Super License is messed up (every circuit does not correspond to the one you actually race on).
I don't know if that happens in other languages as well.
I've seen this unused screen:

If I'm right, the Italian translation (in the final game) shows exactly those circuits, in that order (I remember there is a "Tahitian Dirt Route 2").
I don't have the game here right now, maybe some of you can check it?
EDIT: I've just checked. I'm right:

EDIT 2: The Spanish, German and French translations are messed up as well. Only the English one is right.
Arcade Mode Disc subpage really necessary?
As I've been digging into the game for some more info, I realized that the content from the "Arcade Mode Disc" subpage is not exclusive to said disc at all. It was meant to be used there, but the GT Mode disc contains the exact same graphics. Would it hurt if its content (along with the Platinum Prize from the Sim Mode disc subpage, also found in the Arcade Mode disc) was moved to the main page? It could fit under "Unused Graphics" just fine. Then delete the Arcade Mode page and rename the other page "GT Mode Menus" or something appropriate, as that's all that would be covered on it.

Pit Stop Speed Limited
Odd observation here, but! English language just says Speed Limited (or Limited Speed for you 'Muricans) but then there's French German Italian Spanish - these all say it's limited to "60km/h". What actually happens is it's limited to 80km/h (or 49mph for you get the idea here). Also the other Pit Stop related lines differ between regions as well. --PSXDRIVERPLAYER OUT.
