Version Differences
This was deleted from the page a while ago, but I think it's still interesting info that could live in the talk page.
While the PlayStation version is based on the Nintendo 64 version, the game introduced several new additions and changes:
- Four player capability was removed, maximum amount of players is now two.
- The hub area has been redesigned completely, and the store now has its own area. In the Nintendo 64 version, you had to talk to Sumner first.
- You are no longer able to buy stat boosts from the store. You can only boost your stats by leveling up.
- It brings back from the Arcade the short FMV cutscenes before entering the first 4 realms, however, only the Mountain and Castle realm FMVs are used since two realms from the Arcade version were removed.
- Before entering a stage, a title card introducing the stage is used as the loading screen. In the Arcade version, a map screen was used.
- Many stages were modified, some are more compact, others have new segments.
- It's missing a lot of voice samples, like the ones used to describe what items do, when you level up, when a Rune is found, etc.
- Game was made much easier, and enemies come out in much smaller droves. In the previous versions, the screen would get filled with enemies if not defeated.
- Has several cheat codes enabled by entering your name as some of the development staff's nicknames shown during the credits.
- The ending is a FMV cutscene completely different from the real time Arcade and Nintendo 64 endings.
- The credits are shown after the ending. In the Arcade and Nintendo 64 versions, the credits were shown after the intro.
- After beating the game, you gain access to an extra realm composed of four stages. Two of those stages are based on the Forest and Desert realms from the Arcade version, which are not used in the Nintendo 64 or PlayStation versions.
- There's an unlockable sound test and movie viewer. The soundtest has music for a stage called Acid Swamp, which is not present in this version.
