CGB0 and R-Type DX

The uninitialized wave RAM detail described in the article made me interested to compare the intro and title to R-Type DX on both the rev 0 and rev 1 releases, however (though perhaps influenced by tiredness or not paying enough attention) I didn't empirically hear a change in the audio. Maybe there is a slight difference in output but very minor which I didn't catch though, or perhaps it the BGB sound emulation wasn't perfect? From a data analysis perspective, how does this affect the output in the RAM? I guess for a simple but potentially long approach we could grab the RAM and stats every frame for rev 0 and rev 1 to try to find a difference, or maybe I'm misunderstanding something else in general. The wave RAM on power-up was confirmed (in a discussion thread, so no archivable / linkable source) to be *mostly* constant on CGB0, with a little randomness. An objective comparison can be provided by recording the jack output and comparing, though this is made difficult by CGB0's rarity. Lastly, relying on emulators for this is not possible, as everything pertaining to uninitialized memory is notoriously difficult to emulate accurately, and also because they can only get as good as prior research is, and this is a quite obscure thing. —ISSOtm (talk) 07:25, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Ah I was right to wonder that latter (I was misunderstanding testing an emulator isn't a good idea). ^^ Yeah I didn't think about trying it on a real console. ^^ I'll consider getting one (CGB0 and CGB) thanks, hopefully it doesn't cost the earth. Even if I can't empirically tell a difference, I'll grab a jack and setup (which hopefully doesn't compress the audio into a different form you'd need pure uncompressed audio like a WAV right? (plus in addition to that) I guess also reduce background noise as much as possible if it could get in the way) and repeat a few times. Thanks ISSOtm.
