Unused Stuff, But...

There's a whole page of unused FF6 stuff here, but I'm hesitant to copy from it... All of what I added to the page (and *all* the pages I've edited, which explains why I don't have any "Source" tags) was stuff I'd found myself though messing with Game Genie, editors, and the like. Yeah, I wasn't suggesting that we did, either. What I meant by "copy from it" isn't that we just C&P huge chunks of it into our article. That's not how I (or we) do things. Hmm. I suppose I could port over the unused key items (though I'd like to find a way to hack them in -- something I just can't figure out -- so I can get a screenshot of them in the inventory), the unused formations (I was working on that a while back, but stopped for some reason), and a few other bits, but there are a few things that're on that page that don't seem to be *in* the game, and as such wouldn't be viable TCRF material, such as the Thunder Armor, and the Ragnarok sprite (I searched for that in the ROM, but couldn't find it anywhere). I'll give it another look, though. If you could help out with any of these things, that'd be awesome. Not Unused II

Collapse of Heaven and Earth

Thought I'd make a new header.

Like I said, what I think is best is when you tell me what you can use from my site and tell me when you're content, so I will remove the Loser Club and put a link up there to this site. Is that agreeable?

Here's the things that the Loser Club has that this site doesn't list yet: - Colossum AI script - some enemy Special attacks - unused monster formations - some character sprites (though many sites have complete sprite sets, you needn't use mine) - Can't Leep bit - AI script oddities (branches that are never used) - Cutscene dialogue (simply cross-reference the event dump text found in, say, a text editor to see if a line is ever called or not) - the little avi movie on my site. People (including me) still love it, so do use it! I can keep hosting it if you prefer.

If you want to hunt for the dummied Rare Items:

C. Really Rare Items / Get Back to the WoB (courtesy of Magus) 1) Enter the Code 5BAE-8F69. 2) With the Game Genie on, enter a regular battle. 3) Select the item command and go up on the list so you can see the characters sword and shield. 4) Select either the sword or shield twice. The battle will end. You'll now have a bunch of rare items that you can't normally get in the US version of FF3. 5) When you get back into the airship, you'll go all the way up and land in the World of Balance! (right after the floating island rises into the sky) From there, you can play the game as normal (I'm guessing that you don't want to send Shadow,Gogo, or Umaro onto the Floating Continent, though). Hmm. I've tried that code before... and it doesn't work for me. Not under any version or emulator I've tried... Also, little wonder I couldn't find the Ragnarok sprite. I finally found that so-called "unused Ragnarok sprite". And it's not unused. It's Ragnarok, all right; the *battle animation*. That screenshot in that thread is just using an incorrect palette, and is missing the tiles (which are repeated several times) that make up the long "neck" of it. If such a sprite *did* exist, and *was* intended to be used for Ragnarok's out of battle sprite... it would be in the field sprite data, where all the *other* Esper field graphics are stored, not the battle animations. -YK YK-sig.png 00:31, 6 May 2011 (EDT)
In fact... Thoroughly debunked. No unused Ragnarok sprite. It's just Ragnarok's battle graphic, using the wrong palette, and with some tiles missing. That said, the tip of the sword *does* appear to be unused. (ed: Yeah, it's used) At any rate, case closed. -YK YK-sig.png 15:27, 6 May 2011 (EDT)

Cyclone attack

The Japanese text for this reads "せんぷうきゃく", which means "whirlwind kick." (source) Just thought I'd mention that, in hopes that it would somehow help. --Kahran042 02:16, 29 October 2011 (EDT)

Pointless dialogue edit war

I don't know why someone keeps stubbornly re-adding that bit about the line containing Terra's name "is used before you can rename her". It isn't. That cutscene is shown when she falls into the pit in the mines, pursued by Narshe guards, and falls unconscious. This is *after* she awakens at Arvis' house and can be renamed, and just before *Locke* can be renamed. Stop adding this, as it's patently false information. -YK YK-sig.png 17:44, 22 June 2012 (EDT)

Noted. Not sure why or how that was forgotten, but I think it was keeping the line about Terra not always being silent during the scene that threw me off and I misunderstood what it was you were trying to say. So I just removed that since I don't think the position of text necessarily indicates where it would have been - as I recall from a text editor years ago, Final Fantasy VI's text is fairly all over the place. That, and I think the line was uncharacteristically dramatic for Terra (who just stands there and seemingly resigns to her fate, at least in the final game), so it could have instead belonged to an alternate scene. Sorry for not realizing this sooner. Anyway, don't think of it as an edit war - merely a couple spare minutes of miscommunication. LinkTheLefty 18:02, 22 June 2012 (EDT)
I don't think it was intended for any other scene, as it was mixed in with that particular scene's text. That said, the fact that it was uncharacteristically forceful is probably the exact reason it got axed. That sequence seems like it could well have been quite a bit different earlier, as also mixed in with the text is a line for Cid, who isn't even *in* the scene. -YK YK-sig.png 18:16, 22 June 2012 (EDT)
Thinking of it now, I could scarcely think of any other place where this line would have fit (at least in the game's final form) even if the dialog is very stilted coming from Terra. Censorship

According to the FF Wikia the tiers before Kefka were censored quite a bit mfor the American version. Anyone able to confirm this? -- Sheeza 18:30, 22 June 2012 (EDT)

Looks like it. According to the Wiki, the parts in question are Magic and Hit (the latter is more noticeable and the female figure in the back was also changed). On a side note, I take it those are internal names since I don't remember the game giving them. LinkTheLefty 18:45, 22 June 2012 (EDT)

Setzer looks like a certain pirate

The Amano artwork for Faris Sherwiz and Setzer Gabbiani look incredibly similar. Might this be the source of the comment of the Jidoor citizen who has the notion that Setzer is a pirate? GBA Version

Should this article also cover the GBA version? There are already some mentions of it throughout the article, mainly in the regional section, and I can't think of any cut content in the GBA version that isn't also present in the original SNES/PSX game. The only reason I'm hesitant to add it to systems is because we have a Final Fantasy V Advance article, despite that game being a similar situation to this one. (Unlike Final Fantasy IV Advance which made major graphical and code changes, to the point it can hardly be called a port.) If you guys don't think it should be covered here, I can probably throw up an article for the GBA version some day, but it's literally going to be a duplicate of this one with uglier palettes and a revised script. --Dragonsbrethren 14:52, 20 May 2013 (EDT)

So no other opinions? I kind of want to give it its own article just for consistency with the rest of the Advance series. SNES/PSX Differences

Besides the uncensored graphics, are there any differences between the SNES and PlayStation versions? --PKSomething 00:29, 18 June 2013 (EDT)

Not much: The script got some minor revisions, enemy names were shorted from ten to nine character (eight in the bestiary) because they were evidently going to keep the number count from the Japanese version at some point (there were screenshots of them on the official site), and that's about all I know off outside of the 256 item slot glitch being reintroduced. There's the usual FMV intro/outro, and this one got a bestiary. --Dragonsbrethren 06:11, 18 June 2013 (EDT)
I thought it was based on the revised North American release, so believe some bugs were fixed such as the Sketch glitch. I haven't heard of certain other bugs being "un-fixed"...According to Final Fantasy Wiki, there are some minor translation differences - the ones I remember are the Memento Ring becoming the Safety Ring, AtmaWeapon saying "die" instead of "go", and the infamous gender pronoun for recruiting Shadow/Relm in the World of Ruin went from female to male...And of course, load times and certain additional character animations shown on menu screens, plus there's an unused menu portrait of Esper Terra that wasn't in the SNES version for some reason. Oh! And just like the other PlayStation/Advance ports, holding down the cancel button allows you to dash everywhere except for the world maps. This is much like having the Sprint Shoes on command, except the Sprint Shoes now doubles the effect. This also makes certain timed sequences far easier. LinkTheLefty 18:38, 18 June 2013 (EDT)
OK, I was a little mistaken, the slot 256 thing wasn't a reintroduced bug but instead a new bug similar to one that was in the original Japanese game. The original allowed you to equip anything, this only lets you equip weapons. More details in ZED's excellent guide, of course:

Job Classes

I think in the Japanese Version, the characters had job classes next to their names in the main menu. Can somebody upload an image of this or something? --PKSomething 13:56, 25 June 2013 (EDT)

I know it's just a work-in-progress at the moment, but I just wanted to comment on it since the Sketch Bug wasn't listed in SFC. I looked it up and saw that it wasn't one of the glitches that the popular fan-translation fixed, so I suppose that's accurate after all. Still, I wonder how such a major oversight made its way into the initial North American copy when the glitch wasn't there originally? Technically this means that it wasn't fixed in the PlayStation version, since that release was directly based on the Japanese game. Though I also hear the "Equip Anything" bug has the potential to similarly crash the game spectacularly under the wrong circumstances, but I haven't test this... The bug is technically in the SFC version, but it has no negative impact on the game, so for all intents and purposes it's not there. Even in SNES 1.0, you need special circumstances to cause memory corruption - ZED wrote a really detailed guide on that too:

"Mystery" Character and Kefkas - Not Unused IV

These are just allied characters set up for use as enemies. In the case of the mystery character, it's just Shadow as an enemy in the Colosseum. They are used. West (talk) 03:15, 16 March 2014 (EDT)

LV+30% and LV+50% Esper bonuses

This is just pure speculation, but I believe I know what the "LV+xx%" Esper bonus does. While watching a playthrough video of the FF6 randomiser "Beyond Chaos", I noticed one character equipped an Esper that had a LV+50% bonus. The player then cycled through the status screens for his party. He was playing on the dungeon crawler portion, where everyone starts at 0 experience. The character that had the LV+50% bonus had more experience earned than the others: 134 vs 70 for the other two party members. Perhaps it's an experience bonus?

Allo Ver unused Rage

The wiki says Allo Ver's exclusion from the Veldt is "clearly" a coding mistake, but I don't think that's clear at all. It could be that the developers decided at some point to make the Tiger Fangs unique, so they added a new formation that doesn't create a repeatable source of it (and didn't realize that you can steal them from another monster). Or they intended the first formation to be used for random encounters of Allo Ver in Kefka's Tower, but scrapped that idea. Or any number of other plausible explanations. So if no one objects, I'd like to edit the section to say it "may be" a coding mistake.--Darth l33t (talk) 17:09, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
