Stronghold 2 is an RTS game for PC and the sequel to Stronghold. Despite being a sequel, the game's story shares no connection to any of the previous installments.
Alignment System
Within the folder containing the textures used by both the multiplayer and skirmish lobbies lies textures for what appears to be buttons that the player would press to choose their "alignment", a system which isn't present in the game. The "alignment_bad" icon shows a dark knight holding his sword in an offensive stance, the "alignment_neutral" is what seems to be a normal knight holding his sword in a neutral stance. Lastly, the "alignment_good" icon shows a knight in bright, shining armour, holding a sword in a defensive stance. The game's campaign does allow the player to pick between a "good" and a "bad" side about 2/3 through the game, although this has no effect upon gameplay and only affects what missions the player plays. The "bad" lords in the game do use a different body texture from the other lords which is slightly darker than the rest, but even if the player chooses to join the "bad" side, their body texture will remain the same.
Return of Old Characters
Within the sound files of Stronghold 2, it's possible to find files mentioning Stronghold 1's quartet of villains; "The Rat", "The Snake", "The Pig" and "The Wolf". They are meant for the games "skirmish mode" and are identical for all the characters, the only difference being the file names; "The Rat"'s files being called "rt" and "The Pig"'s being called "pg" etc. They contain the voice of a man demanding/requesting things on the behalf of his "master" in a manner very similar to how the characters were handled in Stronghold Crusader due to the original voice actors not returning and the developers being in need of new lines because of the added trade mechanics.
Oddly enough, the game also contains voice files for (arguably) the most famous character from Stronghold Crusader "The Caliph". Unlike the other unused character voice files in the game, these are voiced by the character himself, saying the same lines as from Stronghold Crusader, but modified slightly to better reflect the environment as Stronghold Crusader took place in a desert and Stronghold 2 takes place in the British Isles. "The desert will run with blood" was changed to "The land will run with blood" for example. "The Caliph"'s voice actor is not the same as in Stronghold Crusader, having a much darker voice while the original had a fairly high pitched voice.
