This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
Hmmm...
To do:
Get better screenshots and further document the test levels.

Test Levels

A majority of the cut levels were simply for testing purposes. Many of these worlds are either missing a skybox or missing textures.

PLANET_N:[09]

This seems to have been a world intended to test lighting and the day/night cycle. The day/night cycles fast, the musical cues for day/night also plays here often. There is also some foliage and objects present for the lighting test.

PLANET_N:[10]

This planet consists of a flat plain with naked character models, presumably to test gear or to stress test the client...Alternatively it might be a model museum.

PLANET_N:[11]

Same as 10, but with creatures instead of humanoids.

PLANET_N:[CHARACTER_FARM]

A large plane with nothing on it. This was probably meant to stress test many player characters in a single area.

PLANET_N:[CINCO_CITY_TEST_M5]

CincoCity1.jpg

This is the first proper planet sized map. Unlike the prior smaller test maps, this is a large colorful world, consisting of many biomes, large lakes, snowy mountains and more. It is the playground of a planet designer. A lot of textures and models are missing here, indicating that a lot of assets were cut.

PLANET_N:[CREATURE_TEST]

This is a large plain with some trees used for creature testing.

PLANET_N:[ENDOR_ASOMMERS]

This is an early version of Endor still in development. It is pretty early in development and has quite a few missing assets.

PLANET_N:[FLORATEST]

This is a large jungle, using both existing and missing assets. The colored ground also implies some lighting tests took place here.

GODCLIENT TEST

This is a large plane with snowy mountains in the distance. It might have been used to test combat with AT-ATs. It's true purpose remains unknown.

otoh_gunga

Otoh1.png Otoh2.png

This one is particularly interesting as it is meant to be an underground map. SWG does not support diving under the water, in fact all the water in the game is no deeper than a puddle. But here you have a large expansive ocean with deep features under the water. The missing texture here is: "otoh_sand_deep" The planet size is 32768 x 32768.

PLANET_N:[RIVERTEST]

This is a river without water, probably using an earlier system for water, hence it's dry state.

PLANET_N:[RUNTIMERULES]

This is an empty map with a mysterious hole in the middle. The purpose of this is elusive.

SIMPLE

Contains a flat plain with some sort of raised terrain pyramid.

PLANET_N:[SPACE_09]

This appears to be some kind of test for a space stage. It contains written text indicating the orientation, and contains two suns and some celestial objects.

PLANET_N:[TEST_WEARABLES]

Just like 10 and 11 this appears to be some sort of museum, but for clothing this time.

PLANET_N:[WATERTABLETEST]

This appears to be something similar to RIVERTEST but earlier and buggier. The terrain is shaped much poorer and it contains holes that will crash the game.

Cut Planets

Unlike the prior test maps, these are actual cut planets that were intended to be in the game and to be accessible to players but they were cut for time constraints.

PLANET_N:[TAANAB]

This was an actual planet that was meant to be visited but it was cut. And it was cut pretty late in development, so it is significantly developed.

PLANET_N:[UMBRA]

Umbra was also meant to be a full planet, but unlike Tanaab it is in a very early state of development and appears barely finished. It consists of a flat plain with a large raised mountain. The planet was later renamed Umbara.

Kashyyyk

Kashyyyk was added as an instanced pre-built planet with the CU. However it was originally planned to be a full scale planet like the others. An early prototype of Kashyyyk was left in the files.
