Silpheed (DOS)
Silpheed |
---|
Developers: Game Arts,
Sierra On-Line This game has a hidden developer message. |
Silpheed was converted to DOS with fairly good results, remaining a fairly good 3D shooter and even fixing up some Engrish in the process. It even comes with Roland MT-32 support, but does lack a couple of minor things from the original PC-88 version.
Unused Text
MESSAGE FROM XACALITE
This text can be seen in s.exe at 0x23090. This probably would have appeared at the beginning of the game, seeing as that is the only time Xacalite ever speaks directly to the player. However, it never actually pops up in any version of the game.
Also, at 0x21B0A in s.exe, there are unused point values for 100000, 200000, 500000 and 1000000.
Hidden Messages
s.exe
At 0x1C1AB in s.exe, the following string can be seen:
marriedonapril221978whatadayfortwopeople!
Spaced and punctuated correctly, the string reads as follows:
Married on April 22, 1978. What a day for two people!
Intro files
There's also this small snippet from "Dixie" (aka "Dixie's Land" and "I Wish I Was in Dixie") in gdemo.low at 0x2E20:
I wish I were in DIXIE, hurray...
Meanwhile, there is a small Japanese string hidden inside both the intro files. This can be seen in gdemo.ega at 0x7DAB and in gdemo.low at 0x81C3:
silpheed omatase shimasita by game arts
"omatase shimasita" translates to "Thanks for waiting".
