July 1994 Prototype

Oh, dang. There is so much to cover for this one… Just covering the audio differences, alone, seems like an all-day project. I also can't seem to extract the graphic data from any of the WAD files using SLADE, so that might require a different method…

Anyone wanna give this a go? It's super worth a look. There's a truckload of differences!

I was able to get most of the assets out of the WADs, but I had to do some fiddling. You can manually set the format of selected items for correct opening/converting with SLADE3's console:
type gfx_rott_pic forced
(Just use "type" by itself for a list of formats)
Some files in ROTT.WAD crashed SLADE3 when doing this, but I was able to get most everything else (actors, sounds, music etc.) Maps are in a very different format from the final game and will need actual effort to handle.
Oh, and before I forget! All the unused tracks credited in their metadata to Bobby Prince are actually extended versions of tracks from Blake Stone: Planet Strike. Based on what the readme says, they're the original pre-Adlib-ification MIDIs quickly thrown in as placeholders. --TheKins (talk) 21:51, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
