Proto:Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island/ys rom 0 D/World 2
This is a sub-page of Proto:Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island/ys rom 0 D.
This article has just been started and needs the article basics added. Help us out and add them. |
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? |
This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
This sub-page details all the levels of World 2, particularly by how they're different from the previous build, ys_romX_0.
Contents
World 2-1
The unused Mushroom transformation that appeared in the ys_romX_0 build has been replaced with the train transformation, allowing access to the warp block above this area. Both the large and small train sprites are not the same as the ones in the final.
To do: Rip and compare train sprites. |
World 2-2
The Super Baby Mario section is still unbeatable because of the wonky collision, though Super Baby Mario's functionality has improved greatly since the last build.
The camera has been corrected for when the last set of red steps is spawned. In the previous build, the camera would lock in an unrelated location until the spawn finished.
An area in the sewer section that contained a flower had the flower replaced with two ? clouds - one with the flower in it, and one with clocks in it.
The confined area of the sewer section has Yoshi correctly exiting from either side pipe as opposed to spawning him out of bounds and forcing him out. The egg block was also replaced with a ? cloud with clocks in it.
To do: Compare pictures maybe. |
World 2-3
This level seems to be unchanged from the previous build.
To do: Check the contents of all the ? clouds in the level to make sure they're the same. |
World 2-4
There are a handful of small changes from the previous build in this stage.
ys_romX_0 | ys_rom0_D |
---|---|
The helicopter transformation bubble was moved to the right a few tiles.
ys_romX_0 | ys_rom0_D |
---|---|
An alcove was made in the ceiling for a ? cloud in the middle of the stage.
ys_romX_0 | ys_rom0_D |
---|---|
The second-to-last flower in the level, originally sitting in an alcove, had its space opened up.
The black fade-out still happens twice when Yoshi dies by touching the lava.
The door at the end is still an invalid entrance. It leads to the top left corner of World 1-1.
World 2-5
This level seems to be unchanged from the previous build.
World 2-6
This level is mostly the same as the previous build, but the end of the second half was modified.
ys_romX_0 | ys_rom0_D |
---|---|
The hallway to the exit door was made to be wavy, instead of straight. The red bridge that's supposed to be made in order to get to the exit door has been removed.
ys_romX_0 | ys_rom0_D |
---|---|
More cannons were added by the exit door, and the exit door was made accessible via an alternate route. However, with the addition of cannons, a new glitch appeared: if a bomb falls on Yoshi at the moment of entering the door, Yoshi will "fly" upwards, and as a result the player will end up in the 1-1 world.
World 2-7
This level seems to be unchanged from the previous build.
World 2-8
This level was completely re-designed.
The area features a bunch of platforms that have to be traversed in order to reach other areas in the level. Dizzy Dandies are found in the area, and their behavior is completely different from the final game. Instead of falling down and rolling into Yoshi, it acts as a bumper that laughs at the player when it has been touched.
The pipe off on the right of this room leads to a tunnel that leads back outside with a bunch of flowers and red stairs. The pipe towards the bottom leads deeper into the level. The second half of the level features a sewer maze that has a theme of having rooms with enemies that are either dead-ends or connect to other places in the maze, somewhat like the maze in the final version of World 2-8.
At some point, the player will come to a room that has both ice and a key in a ? cloud. The ice cannot be broken by shooting eggs at it, and the key is grey instead of gold like in the final. Touching the ice does not result in instant death - Yoshi just loses Baby Mario. This same room has opaque water in which Yoshi's swimming sprite is on top of the water.
Later on in the maze, the player will reach a Bandit Room that is much like the Bandit Room in the final version of World 2-8, only much more plain and not as dark-themed. After this room, Yoshi comes to the boss room.
The boss is now Roger the Potted Ghost, instead of the Naval Piranha. Roger is incomplete, however, and on top of the glitchy graphics, Yoshi can't push the pot, making the level unwinnable.
