Proto:Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast)/The Trial/Early Audio

This is a sub-page of Proto:Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast)/The Trial.

Every tracks have been altered after the Preview prototype, as none of the audio used in this build match the final's audio, most notably City Escape/City Escape 3.

As only one stage is available in this demo, only eight tracks can be heard, and thus, the rest of the tracks present in the next build are absent here.

Audio Differences

Music

All of the tracks used in this build have some or very notably differences than what's heard in the final. This (and similar to but unlike the Preview) version uses 44100 Hz for all tracks, but they use 32000 Hz in the final to save space, while the "coming" file would be deleted after this build (with more info on that below).

Title Screen

The Trial Final

The ending of the title screen music is different and the lead guitar is quieter.

Let's Make It

The Trial Final

The intro from the final is notably missing here. However, there were also additional drum sounds at the beginning of this build's track that would be removed in the final version.

City Escape

Demo Track The Trial Final

The City Escape track starts off differently and does not include vocals yet, so the instrumental version is featured. This build uses different instruments than the earlier demo track. It should be noted that the instrumental at 0:24 - 0:38 would later be used and remixed in Sonic Generations as the solo guitar for Classic Sonic's City Escape stage.

City Escape 2

The Trial Final

The track was rearranged slightly at 0:36 for the final release.

City Escape 3

The Trial Final

Similar and/or same as the first track above, but without the opening, and instead used for when the player restarts from the last checkpoint after losing a life and when the speed shoes or invincibility wear off after a few seconds.

Invincible

The Trial Final

The drums at 0:07 are reused from the beginning of the track. The final trims 0:07 slightly while some additional drum sounds would be added at 0:08.

Speed Up

The Trial Final

The instruments in this demo sound much closer to Sonic Adventure. This would have a more unique remix in the final version.

Round Clear

The Trial Final

While nearly identical to the final, the ending lasts ever-so-slightly longer than the final version.

Sound

Sonic's Voice

See this section for the early cutscene.

Checkpoint

Hmmm...
To do:
Rip the sound.

The checkpoint sound is more identical to Sonic Adventure.

Other Differences

  • After clearing City Escape, the "COMING 2001" screen is shown, with a complete voice to come along with it that's not present in the final version nor in any of the later builds after this for that matter, as the coming.adx file was deleted within the next build of the game while straight up removed from the final.
  • The whistle that Sonic makes, as well as the sound that an animal makes when you get it, are erroneously played at a lower sample rate and are significantly shorter in length and higher in pitch as a result.
  • There is a small click noise when Sonic gets on a rail that is not there on the final. Well, technically Sonic is wearing different shoes which might cause the noise to happen, but that's probably not the reason why it was changed.
  • When the player's performance grade hits the screen, it makes the emblem jingle as opposed to the metallic thud sound in the final.
