This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Add every other map, including interiors where applicable.
  • Add comparison images.
  • Describe all of the differences on display.
  • Some maps use different music as a placeholder, and should be documented.

In this early prototype, a large amount of Johto is implemented, though almost every Kanto map is a flat placeholder. Many areas in Johto still use graphics from Diamond/Pearl, often with broken tree graphics strewn about.

New Bark Town

Although New Bark Town causes the game to crash, it is possible to warp into its buildings using the debug menu.

Elm's Lab

January 31 2008 Final

The Pokéballs containing the starters are fully functional, allowing you to pick your starter if you have not obtained a Pokémon yet in a manner more similar to Gold/Silver than the final games.

Violet City

Sprout Tower

Hmmm...
To do:
Is there a name for "entrance cutscene" by the way?

Sprout Tower appears in the prototype, and the Violet City music is used. Instead of ladders, warp panels seem to be used instead, and there is currently no entrance cutscene.

Route 36

Past the gate to the left, there's invisible sections of tall grass, including the taller type used in National Park.

The placement bears a striking resemblance to National Park's Poké Ball patterned grass. There are also some trees that can be walked through. In the image below, the tall grass is marked in yellow, the taller grass seen in National Park is marked in red, and trees that can be walked through are marked in blue.

Hmmm...
To do:
Make a tile accurate version of this image as it's currently a rough approximation.

Pokéathlon Dome

January 31 2008 Final
Pokemon HGSS Jan 31 08 Pokeathlon Dome.png Blank.png

The Pokéathlon dome uses a gate as a placeholder. The receptionist can be spoken to in order to start the Pokéathlon as documented in its sub-page.

Route 37

Pokemon HGSS Jan 31 08 Route 37.png Blank.png

There's an unusual object near the gate to Ecruteak City which changes its graphics depending on the time of day.

Ecruteak Gym

January 31 2008 Final
Pokemon HGSS Jan 31 08 Ecruteak Gym.png Blank.png

Ecruteak Gym uses a house interior as a placeholder. Interacting with Regigigas will give the Gym Guide's dialogue from Pokémon Gold and Silver. Maylene is used as a placeholder sprite for Morty who can be fought.

Burned Tower

Burned tower uses a house interior as a placeholder. Interacting with the NPC will give Silver's dialogue.

Barrier Station to Bell Tower has a rather empty placeholder in this build. There's also another room only accessible by warping to T27R0301 using the debug menu, which is a placeholder house with an old man in it. The old man uses dialogue from a Sage referring to the history of the towers, Ho-Oh, and Lugia.

Empty Houses

Pokemon HGSS Jan 31 08 Empty Houses.png

There are a few maps which consist of empty houses which seem to have no way to enter and do not have defined maps to exit to. The intended purposes of these maps are unknown, as their internal names correspond to areas that either have all of their interior areas implemented by other maps or never had any in the first place. Their location names all display as Jubilife City as a placeholder.

Internal Name Possible Location
T27R0101 Ecruteak City
R09R0101 Route 9
T22R0501 Violet City

Empty Maps

Pokemon HGSS Jan 31 08 Empty Maps.png

A number of dungeon maps exist but are completely empty placeholders. Most of them are named, but the last few seem to fall back on Diglett's Cave as a placeholder name.
