This is a sub-page of Proto:Pokémon Gold and Silver/Spaceworld 1999 Demo.
Unsurprisingly, most of the dialogue and other story contents have already been finalized. However, a good handful of text differences still remain.

---|---|
POKEMON2GOLD POKEMON2SILVER |
POKEMON_GLDAAUJ POKEMON_SLVAAXJ |
- The internal names of each versions were changed when the time came for the final release. The original ones actually date all the way back to the 1997 builds.
Japanese | Translation |
---|---|
Just about moldy. New POKéMON species. |
- The item spot which was later assigned to the Scope Lens uses a radically different description in this build. It actually appears to be an inside joke, a dedicated entry for the general idea of a Teru-Sama. This makes more sense given how in Japanese, Teru-Sama is known as "Kabichu" ("Moldichu"), a cute nonsensical name which serves as yet another playful jab at Kōji Nishino.
Japanese | Translation |
---|---|
Print MAIL (HOLD) |
- Every mail type besides Flower and Surf shares this placeholder description.
- The Surf Mail (なみのりメール) is known here as "Lapras Mail" (ラプラスメール), which was likely changed due to being rather redundant. A handful of other items also have textual differences, with additional information regarding those being available here.

This certifies that you have completed the new POKéDEX. |
- The Pokédex Diploma reuses the blurb from the Generation I Diploma, instead of using a unique message.
- The "UNDERGROUND" map header is missing entirely in this build.

- All the siblings' names are spelled using hiragana rather than katakana. This change is also reflected in their respective dialogue.
- Arthur's dialogue has an extra space at the end of one line, which causes a slight graphical error, as a portion of the dialogue box's frame gets overwritten by a blank tile.

PROF.OAK'S POKéMON TALK! Please tune in next time! POKéMON CHANNEL! This is DJ MARY, your co-host! POKéMON! POKéMON CHANNEL… |
- The radio in the player's bedroom has a slightly different message. Moreover, text doesn't autoscroll in the demo, and interacting with the radio once the message finishes starts it from the very beginning, instead of simply repeating the last two lines.
Japanese | Translation |
---|---|
Really? Then show me how you use it. |
- The player's mother has an extra string after obtaining the Poké Gear.
Prototype | |

<PLAYER>, if you're late, call me. Ok? |
Final | |
Gee, isn't that convenient? |
- The last string spoken by the player's mother is also completely different.
- The TV uses its default "It's a TV!" message in this build. Meanwhile, the final games have a custom string which references to the movie "Night on the Galactic Railroad", the same way that the player's TV in Generation I references the movie "Stand by Me".
Prototype | |

Give my regards to PROF.OAK in KANTO! |
- After gifting you the ticket, he also lacks the string where he comments how you will be able to catch some Kanto Pokémon. His final string was also expanded slightly.
Route 31 Gate
Prototype | |
---|---|
Sorry... You can't go any further. So please, just wait a bit longer! |
Final | |
Hi, guy! Did you visit SPROUT TOWER? |
- The guard has completely different dialogue. However, it was likely just changed due to this NPC being used as a roadblock for the sake of the demo.
Prototype | |
---|---|
Hey, nice POKéMON! You must be quite a great trainer. |
Final | |
I came too far out. I'd better phone home! |
- The Cooltrainer NPC also has completely different dialogue, though unlike the guard it's likely that this may have actually been what she originally said.

- The Gym sign has a slightly different message, only stating that this is the "Violet Pokémon Gym" as opposed to the "Violet City Pokémon Gym".

Japanese | Translation |

- The old man's dialogue was very slightly tweaked, removing the no at the end of the second string. This change doesn't affect the meaning of the message.
Azalea Town
Prototype | |
---|---|

All the SLOWPOKE have disappeared from the town. This could be bad news. We should stay in. |

All the SLOWPOKE have disappeared from the town. The forest's pro- tector may be angry with us… It may be a bad omen. We should stay in. |
- The initial dialogue of the Charcoal Kiln's boss is a bit different, namely lacking any mention of Celebi.
Japanese | Translation |
---|---|
I guess you really get quite capable at 10 years old. |
- The final dialogue of the Charcoal Kiln's boss has an extra line at the end.
- The buddhist altar in Kurt's house uses its default message in this build. Meanwhile, the final games has a custom string which describes it as a Celebi statue. As with the Charcoal Kiln, the omission of these touches of world-building is simply due to Celebi being a very recent addition in this build.
- Kurt's granddaughter doesn't have any new dialogue for when he leaves to help at Slowpoke Well. In the final games, she remarks how she feels lonely after he leaves.

Final | |

- The introductory dialogue of the Pokémon Daycare couple is slightly different, namely lacking the "How incredible is that?" string after they comment how shocked they were to find a Pokémon egg out of the blue.
Prototype | Final |
---|---|
- The message asking if you’d like to have one of your Pokémon raised in the Daycare was also tweaked slightly. However, the meaning of the message remains unchanged.

Oh, you're better than WHITNEY. Do you know about that moving tree? If you wet it with a SQUIRTBOTTLE, it attacks. But since you have some BADGES, you should be OK. |
- The florist in the Goldenrod Flower Shop has completely different dialogue.
Prototype | |
---|---|

Do you know about the moving tree? If you water it, it jumps up in surprise! |
- The florist's assistant also had her dialogue changed slightly. That, and she lacks her "pre-Plain Badge" dialogue, where she talks about the "mysterious tree" on Route 36.
Prototype | |
---|---|
We currently have issues to fix. Please be patient. |
Final | |

The train hasn't come in… I know! I'll carry the passengers on my back! That won't work. |
- The guard in the Train Station has completely different dialogue for when you can't yet take the train.
- The gentleman in the Train Station lacks the last few strings of dialogue where he comments how the Magnet Train connects Kanto and Johto to one another.
Japanese | Translation |
---|---|
Ever heard of the TIME CAPSULE? |
- Bill has an extra line of dialogue right after greeting the player for the first time.
Radio Tower
- The Radio Tower's director doesn't mention that he "better go to his office" right after defeating the Rocket Executive. Fittingly, he doesn't physically leave after his dialogue is over, instead simply unloading after you exit the room, then being spawned in his office across the room.
Prototype | Final |
---|---|

Final | |

A strange tree is blocking the road. It wriggles around if you talk to it. I heard it became wild when someone watered it with a SQUIRTBOTTLE. |

Using one of your POKéMON, catch a bug POKéMON to be judged. Here are the PARK BALLS for the Contest. The person who gets the strong- est bug POKéMON is the winner. You have 20 minutes. If you run out of PARK BALLS, you're done. You can keep the last POKéMON you catch as your own. Go out and catch the strongest bug POKéMON you can find! |
- The National Park guard had some portions of his Contest dialogue rewritten.

(Tomoyuki) | Schoolboy Kipp |
(Yōji) | Bug Catcher Ed |
- Around half the participants of the Bug-Catching Contest have different names. This is due to them being actual trainers who were later renamed, with the only exceptions being Bug Catcher Josh, Bug Catcher Ed, and Schoolboy Kipp, who all already use their final name in this build.
Ecruteak City
Prototype | Final |
---|---|
- The Gym sign has a slightly different message, only stating that this is the "Ecruteak Pokémon Gym" as opposed to the "Ecruteak City Pokémon Gym". The rest of the message after that was also changed, going from "せんりがんで すべてを みぬく もの" ("The One Gifted with Clairvoyance.") to "せんりがんを もつ しゅげんじゃ" ("An Ascetic Gifted with Clairvoyance.").
Japanese | Translation |
---|---|
One of them burned to the ground. As for the other one, it's still around. |
- The old man in the center of town has one extra line of dialogue at the end.

Put simply, no sending new moves or new POKéMON in the TIME CAPSULE. |
- Bill originally told the player that some items couldn't be traded via the Time Capsule... which is blatantly untrue, and was likely just a mistake to begin with.
- The history book in the Itemfinder's house lacks the "keep reading" portion that discusses the tale of the three legendary beasts.

- The standing Sage in Barrier Station doesn't block you from entering Tin Tower even if you don't have the city's badge, and thus his corresponding "pre-Fog Badge" dialogue is completely different. His other dialogue set instead appears after you've obtained the Rainbow Wing, and was ultimately rewritten slightly and assigned to the wandering Sage.

- The Sage on the first floor who blocks the stairs for most of the game doesn't exist in this build, and in his place is a wandering Burglar NPC. Said NPC's dialogue was ultimately rewritten and assigned to the Sage in the final games.
