Hmmm...
To do:
  • Document leftover March Patreon Build content.
  • Document potential differences between the March Patreon Build and Golf.
  • Upload images or videos of the escape effects.
  • Unused Music.

This April Fools 2019 "Demo" was made to showcase a more experimental feature in the game, that being Golf Mechanics. It's very straight forward to understand, just get a Greaseball into a hole. The entire idea of the demo eventually made the cut in the final game as the level Golf, still featuring a DOOM reference in its title card, instead of a billboard at the start.

Gameplay Differences

  • The player can use the F1, F2, and F9 keys to do certain things;
    • F1 breaks all the golf blocks right away, referred to as "Fun Mode".
    • F2 swaps Peppino out with The Noise, though his glide ability has now been removed.
    • F9 spawns in Fake Peppino, who will chase the player around during Pizza Time.
  • The player now has a pistol that they can shoot with by pressing the C button. It works good for quickly stunning enemies from afar, though it can cause an easy softlock if it's used while bouncing on a tomato block, in the Sewer level. The move is notably similar to the gun move from Weenie Cop, a cancelled game by McPig, in terms of both mechanics and sprites, with Peppino performing some poses very similar to the ones the main characters of Weenie Cop do while shooting.
  • Taunting has been introduced, though instead of being triggered by a dedicated button, it is instead done by pressing Down + Grab. It can not yet parry, nor does it have a sound effect attached to it.
  • A # GOLF HIT counter is seen on the HUD at all times, regardless of which level is being played.
  • The game not only keeps track of how much of a combo the player has built, but also how many times enemies have been consecutively pummeled, which also comes with a 2-second leeway (indicated by a # HIT counter, sandwiched between the TV and the GOLF HIT counter).
  • Pesto Anchovi plays for both Peppino and The Noise during Pizza Time, whereas before it was only The Noise's escape theme at the time.
  • Text has been temporarily added to the rank screen, letting the player know that this was an April Fools demo, along with mentioning the functions of the F1 and F2 keys.

Visual Differences

  • Various visual effects appear while Pizza Time is triggered, most of these which would persist up until 2021;
    • Backgrounds in most levels (except Freezer) change into alternative escape-themed ones.
    • The monitor on the HUD automatically plays various "You hurt Peppino x times" sprites, ala the Sound Room in Wario Land 4.
    • The screen creates a ghosting effect that gradually increases its intensity the closer the timer is to 0:00.

Unused Music

Hmmm...
To do:
Finish this.

The remix of "It's Pizza Time!" Would've been used when playing as Peppino and Fake Peppino is spawned in during Pizza Time, but OG Pizza Time doesn't play at all, making it unused as well.
