Tracks With Major Changes

A sizable amount of the songs are different from their final versions in some way, ranging from minor to major changes.

Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There

Early Final

The opening theme, while having the same visuals is different; It features Yumi Kawamura instead of Lyn, the instrumentation is slightly different while being in a lower key and the lyrics are different. This would also be present in the February and March builds.

The presence of the song is strange due to the near-finalized theme and instrumentation being revealed in the PV01 trailer from February 2015, and the finalized vocals in September 2015. It's likely that someone just forgot to update it or it was just deemed a lower priority, much like some of the other design changes in the game.

The following lyrics below are audibly transcribed, with the final version for comparison;

bgm_300, bgm_310, bgm_320 Last Surprise
One of the most different out of the early music tracks. The song is in a different key, the instrumentation is noticeably unfinished and the song lacks vocals, instead using a guitar and synth for the melody. It was originally used in the PV02 trailer.
bgm_001, bgm_620 Tokyo Emergency
Different in instrumentation with heavier emphasis on the percussion.
bgm_440, bgm_441 Sweatshop
Very different. Starts off with the early version of 'High Pressure' and then cuts at 0:26 to a more familiar sounding Sweatshop, the main instrument sounds a little different. The melody seems to be the same. Overall very unfinished. bgm_441 ended up becoming 'Sweatshop (Another Version)' in the final release of the game.
bgm_610 Tokyo Daylight
Different in instrumentation, lacking the strings, guitar and heavier emphasis on the percussion. An electric piano is used in place of Lyn's vocals.
bgm_450, bgm_451 The Whims of Fate
Though the overall structure is the same, it's much more richer in instrumentation, such as the increased backing in the intro and overall song. This song uses a synth lead in its place of Lyn's vocals.
bgm_102 Hoshi To Bokura To
This track, like the others, lacks any vocals and instead uses synths. It is also much shorter than the final version and has a slightly different melody. In the final release, bgm_102 is 'Freedom and Peace' and 'Hoshi To Bokura To' isn't present with the other bgm files as it is embedded in the credits' movie file, mov045. In this build a longer, but still unfinished, version is also embedded within movie file mov045. The final audio used on this page is taken from the official OST release as the movie file's audio has sound effects and dialogue mixed in.

Tracks With Minor Changes

Sorted by Official Soundtrack order. Note that the multiple bgm duplicates in the same file sound identical, where some of them would be removed or separated in later builds and the final game.

Different mixing which sounds a little muddier in comparison to the final. The beta version is also missing an entire section of the song (at 3:01 in the final version) and is much shorter overall. bgm_640 went on to become the normal vocal version of the song.
bgm_025 Tension
A more familiar version of Tension. Missing distorted guitar in the second part of the song, and loops without percussion. It and bgm_010 become identical in later builds.
bgm_011, bgm_026, bgm_027 Awakening 300px 300px Very very slight mixing differences, not really noticeable unless the early and final versions are overlaid and played at the same time. In the February build, bgm_026 and bgm_027 would become a shorter, non-looping version of the song.
bgm_335 Will Power
Missing the second part after the first loop.
bgm_017, bgm_403 King, Queen and Slaves (Another Version)
Keyboard is off tune compared to the final. The mixing is also slightly different.
bgm_400, bgm_401, bgm_402 King, Queen and Slaves
Slightly different-sounding lead instrument, part at 0:26 has less backing instrumentation, same with part at 0:40 with a guitar backing added.
bgm_341, Talk
The keyboard at 0:28 is in a different key compared to the final.
bgm_340, Triumph
The early version of the game's victory theme has a longer intro section than the final. This early version of the song was mentioned by composer Shoji Meguro in an interview in the Original Soundtrack's booklet.[1]
bgm_021 Confession / Secret
This early version has slightly different drums and uses a trumpet in place of the final's guitar. The final version got rid of the intro segment.
bgm_032 Confession / Secret 300px 300px Another early version of the song which has the same traits as the one above.
bgm_503 Layer Cake
This early version has a trumpet in place of the final's guitar, and the melody is very slightly different.
bgm_630 Life Will Change (Instrumental Version)
The guitar melody at 0:35 is slightly different and the keyboard at 1:19 is missing in the early version. The mixing is also slightly different.
bgm_023 Blood of Villain
Exactly the same, except for the bass and drums being mixed slightly differently.
bgm_013, bgm_331, bgm_332, bgm_333, bgm_334 Blooming Villain
Nearly the same, the melody is slightly different, it's most noticeable around 0:10 and the underlying sounds at 0:52 are missing. The guitar that comes in at 1:10 is also less fine-tuned. In the final game bgm_332 becomes 'Rivers in the Desert -instrumental version-', bgm_333 becomes 'Jaldabaoth', and bgm_334 becomes 'Our Beginning'.
bgm_024 Regret
Strings are louder and more prominent. The song is also shorter by about 40 seconds.
bgm_502 Butterfly Kiss
Basically the same until 2:10, though the early version is one or two beats ahead of the final, and the shaker in the left channel isn't present. At 2:10 the early version loops back to the section 40 seconds in, while the final loops to the beginning of the song.
bgm_495 Have a Short Rest
Lacks the backing guitar. Really noticeable between 0:25 and 0:50. The transition between the A and B sections also sounds much more haphazard in the early version.
bgm_000 My Homie
Lacks the guitar melody and backing piano throughout the song.
bgm_002 Wicked Plan
Lacks the guitar's backing melody and solo sections. Also missing some percussion throughout the song.
bgm_030 Wicked Plan 300px 300px Another version of the song with the same traits as above, but with an intro segment. The final is double the length of the early version.
bgm_410, bgm_411 A Woman
Trumpet used as a lead instrument. bgm_411 would eventually be replaced by 'A Woman (Another Version)' by the final build.
bgm_031 Sunset Bridge
Lacks the guitar backing melody throughout the song. The middle section is also slightly extended in the final version.
bgm_003 Sunset Bridge (No Intro)
Same as above, just without the intro.
bgm_209 Crossroads
The early version starts 1-2 beats earlier and is muffled compared to the final. Additionally, the final plays more of its third loop before fading out.
bgm_022 Suspicion
Slightly different lead piano mixing and lacks the strings and overall build-up in the second half of the song.
bgm_018 High Pressure
Nearly the same except for the melody. This version of the song would likely be reworked into Sweatshop (Another Version).
bgm_420, bgm_421, bgm422 Price
Lacks the melody variance at 0:47, and the drumroll at 1:23. bgm_422 would eventually be replaced by 'Price (Another Version)' by the final build.
bgm_330 Keeper of Lust
Slight FX filter differences between 1:55-2:13, with less emphasis on higher frequencies compared to the final.
bgm_037 Life Goes On
Different mixing in the intro such as quieter percussion, and lacking the strings in some parts of the song. The guitar at 1:23 is also barely audible and the bass line melody at 1:40 is different.
bgm_430, bgm_431, bgm_432, bgm_433, When Mother Was There
Mixed differently, the drums throughout the song are much quieter. bgm_432 and bgm_433 end up being replaced by 'When Mother Was There (Another Version)' in the March build and in the final build. It is roughly two bpm slower than the final version, which was noted by Shoji Meguro in an interview in the Original Soundtrack's booklet.[2]
bgm_034 Alleycat
Different lead instrument tuning.
bgm_005 Alleycat (No Intro)
Same as above, except the guitar is replaced with a MIDI saxophone instrument.
bgm_033 Alleycat
Same as above, except with an intro. The finalized version would be duplicated from the bgm_034 file.
bgm_015 Alright (Elp version)
Lacks the quiet maracas backing and has louder lead piano mixing at 0:42.
bgm_007 New Beginning (No Intro)
Missing the sections with just the flute and the clapping that appears in the final at 1:40 and 3:50.
bgm_014 Alright
Lacks the guitar backing. The cymbal sound is louder and different at 0:16 and the secondary instrument sound is a lot less filtered.
bgm_009 Break It Down (Elp version)
Different mixing, and the bass at 0:52 is slightly different.
bgm_700 The Spirit
The drum has more echo, the trumpet is more prominent at 0:20, and the strings are louder at 0:37.
bgm_004, bgm_720, bgm_721 What's Going On?
Missing the maracas at the beginning and the guitar starting at 0:20. There are also apparent drumroll sounds after 0:20 that were removed in the final, and the background piano is off-tune as usual.
bgm_029 Sweet
Missing extra strings at around 0:04, and has slightly different percussion at the beginning. The guitar is missing from the lead at 1:06.
bgm_016 Sweet (No Intro)
Same as above, except without an intro. From the March build onwards, this version would be overwritten with the intro.
bgm_210 Planetarium
Has extra backing that would be removed in the final.
bgm_215 Home Electronics Store
No filter and has louder bass backing. This bgm entry would be overwritten by 'Triple Seven' in the February build.
bgm_208 Home Electronics Store
Same as above but filtered and it is now the same length as the final. The filter used here is not final.
bgm_214 Welcome Home, Master!
The high-pass filter used here is slightly different.
bgm_212 Time to Repent
Almost identical except for the long note 0:45, which would be removed.
bgm_213 Destinyland
Different filter compared to the final.
bgm_641 Beneath the Mask -Rain- Instrumental Version)
Identical up until 6:54. The early version keeps looping the previous bars, while the final version transitions into a new segment of the song.
bgm_008 Break It Down
Most notably is missing the swelling notes in the background. Also has different mixing on the drums and some of the guitar is missing.
bgm_036 So Boring 300px 300px The drums are different, and the middle section in the early version is longer.
bgm_460, bgm_461 Ark 300px 300px The synth at the start is louder from the beginning, whereas in the final it gets louder gradually.
bgm_020 Desire 300px 300px Overall much quieter, with much more prominent strings. The melody is slightly different as well.
bgm_100, bgm_200, bgm_201, bgm_202, bgm_203, bgm_204, bgm_205, bgm_206, bgm_207, bgm_470, bgm_490, bgm_710 These tracks are just 2:10 of silence. In the final release, bgm_207 becomes 'Tanaka's Shady Commodities', bgm_470 becomes 'Freedom and Peace' identical to bgm_102, and bgm_710 becomes a looping section of 'Swear to My Bones'. The remaining nine stay silent.

Tracks With No Changes

Some tracks in the beta build are identical to the final release. Note that the multiple bgm duplicates in the same file sound identical, where some of them would be removed or separated in later builds and the final game.
