All text changes are bolded.
General Changes
Bosses
- The current overworld theme plays during any boss's cutscene in the prototype.

|
- All of the boss points have the wrong palette in the prototype.
- The Retry option appears in the prototype after beating a boss, even if you won the race. Selecting either option takes you to the Golden Brick screen.

- For whatever reason, this picture of a prisoner appears after defeating a boss in the prototype.
Opponents
- It's possible to win races in Story Game by quitting a race.
- Three opponent names are different in the prototype;
- Pippin Read's prototype name omitted her surname.
- Frankie Solido had the name "Brick Hauss".
- Warrior was called "Lightor".
Screens and Menus
Prototype
|
Final
|
|
|
- Not only does the prototype's menu fail to load any text, but the shadow of the star is orange instead of black. It also darkens the screen when accessed, which was removed from the final game for some reason.
- The Golden Brick meter in the prototype has the same problem as the menus - the text doesn't show up, replacing it with random graphics.
Prototype
|
Final
|
|
|
- Speaking of the Golden Brick, the screen shown while obtaining one is completely different. The shining animation has more frames, too.
Prototype
|
Final
|
|
|
- Other than having the player be hideously broken, the "Congratulations!" screen when winning a race was changed in a few ways;
- The palette of the screen was made lighter in the final game.
- There's no "CONGRATULATIONS" message.
- The two girls on the side of the podium wear less revealing clothes in the final.
Text
- Many of the text changes between the prototype and the final game involve adding missing punctuation. Due to how many changes there are like it, they've been excluded unless there's at least one other change made.

There is a race about to start nearby, would you like to join in? |
- The last sentence said by racers wanting to race has a word missing.
Misc

|
- The lowercase E letter was shortened to match the height of the other lowercase letters.
- Dialogue boxes in the prototype have some discolored pixels, which change in color occasionally.
- Several of the cutscene frames have shading differences, making them look a bit unpolished.
- Trying to enter an unavailable area in the prototype is more rough; the screen briefly flashes black, and the music restarts.
Opening Cutscene
In the prototype, this screen appears before Story Game begins, showing the playable character's appearance and name.
Prototype
|
Final
|
|
|
- The opening cutscene has no text whatsoever.
Prototype

Final

- The final frame of the opening cutscene was entirely redone, in order to polish it up and remove Ghost & Freeze. More info on them later.

Rocket Racer has come to Sandy Island. He says you are the racer to represent Sandy Island at the Galactic Cup! |
Rocket Racer has come to Sandy Bay. He says you are the racer to represent Sandy Bay at the Galactic Cup! |
- The final game corrects an unusual (possibly early) name for Sandy Bay.
Citizens
In the prototype, the Fisherman and Tony the Coastguard share the same area (a beach near the blimp that takes the player to Dino Island). The area directly south of Brickton is instead occupied by a bunch of beachgoers who appeared in the console versions of LEGO Racers 2. They, along with two beach shirts in the character creator, were removed in the final game for some reason. Despite this, they can still be seen in the cutscene where Rocket Racer comes to Sandy Bay, and their dialogue still exists in the final game's files.
For reference, here are all of the beachgoers' lines:
Whoa. Look at all my babes!
I'm so forgetful, I always ask Sparky to remember things for me
It doesn't matter how long I sunbathe, I never seem to get brown.
I'm really excited by the shuttle mission.. who knows what sort of weird people live on Mars?
Rocket Racer

I have thrown down the gauntlet to racers from all across the LEGO worlds, to come to Xalax and test their skills against me in the Galactic Racing Championship. |
Most of Rocket Racer's speech about the championship on Xalax is unceremoniously cut off in the prototype.
Brickton
- The prototype begins with Sparky talking about the commotion at the Town Hall. Because of this, the character creator is on a separate option in the main menu (detailed on the main page).
Prototype

Final

- The same palette change goes for Brickton.
- Brickton's bonus game, Cops and Robbers, cannot be accessed through the map.

Due to the game's multiple languages, the "GALACTIC RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS" subtitle on the poster was removed.
Despite this, the text can still be seen in the previous frame.

Same here. The frame was also made shorter to allow some text to display at the bottom of the screen, and Fireman Gavin's visor was changed from grey to green.

An extra line from the player was added in...
Prototype |

Hi <player name>! Sparky here! Just thought I would give you a few tips when you're racing. Look out a strange swirly object by the side of the road. This is called a Vortex, and it is your access to Bonus Games! If you see one, drive into it and then you will be able to play a Bonus Game. Also, when you are racing your opponents remember to collect pick-ups. Once you have picked them up you can activate them with the L Button. These can help you win races! Don't worry if you get hit by other cars, you can collect green bricks to rebuild your health. |
...as well as this massive chunk of text from Sparky about how to race against the CPU.

OK then, <player name>. Come and meet me over by the Post Office. I'll give you a real run for your money! |
The line said by Mike the Postman after Workman Fred's defeat was revised, fixing punctuation and capitalization mistakes.

No it wasn't, that was pure luck! |
Mike the Postman is as bad of a loser in the prototype as he is in the final game.

This line from the player was erroneously said by P.C. Bobby in the prototype.

One of Sparky's lines was improved and given more excitement.

Even though Golden Bricks was capitalized here, another mention in the same conversation with Sparky was not.

Have you seen the portal to Xalax they've built on the island? |
This text was corrected due to the Xalax portal being on the north-east end of the island (on the map, anyways).

More punctuation fixing on Sparky's dialogue.
Bonus Game (Slyboots)
Prototype
|
Final
|
|
|
Similar to a boss's losing cutscene, the prototype shows a picture of a dinosaur egg before the Bonus Game in Dino Island. In addition, some text at the bottom indicates what level of difficulty the bonus game is currently on.
Arctic
Prototype
|
Final
|
|
|
- Arctic also has a lighter palette.
- Collect the Meteors, the area's bonus game, cannot be accessed from the map.
Chilly
It is impossible to visit Chilly (the Inuit on the leftmost point on the map) in the prototype, nor his race.

Who knew the Berg was a really nice guy? Or ice monster.
Mars
Prototype

- Mars' dusty dunes were made darker in the final game, just like the other overworlds.
Prototype

Prototype |

- A simple word change. Why they didn't put a space between a and lot is a mystery.
Xalax
Prototype
|
Final
|
|
|
- Other than the usual palette change, some differences can be seen in the Velodrome;
- The blue spotlight is missing in the prototype.
- The player's sprites fail to load, resulting in a grey square.
- The green dot on the map is missing.
Announcer
Prototype |
Final |
---|
Lets Start the 4rd Race.. |
Let's start the 4th Race... |
Other than adding an apostrophe and fixing capitalization, the ordinal number indicating the race was corrected.
Ghost & Freeze
In another instance of the prototype being closer to the console ports of LEGO Racers 2, finishing the 4th race in the Velodrome will have Ghost & Freeze challenge you! The final game removes them and sends the player to Rocket Racer after the 4th race is done. Like the beachgoers, their dialogue still exists in the final game's files.
Rocket Racer
- This conversation appears in the prototype after defeating Rocket Racer.
Prototype |
Final |

<player name>, the new champion! |
<player name>... The new champion! |
- This line was made more dramatic in the final.
Prototype

Final

- Some confetti and text were added to this frame.
Prototype

Final
|
|
|
- This frame of the crowd ended up reusing the previous one in the final game, most likely due to the incorrect palette on the LEGO logo.
Prototype
|
Final
|
|
|
- Similar to Rigel/Riegel, the background glitches out when trying to load Slyboots' graphics (which don't even appear).
Credits
There are no credits in the prototype. Instead, the game sends the player back to Xalax's overworld, where touching a button returns to the main menu.
