This is a sub-page of Proto:Disney's Toontown Online.

Toontown Online was first released as Beta 1, sometime at the beginning of September 2001. It lasted until January 16, 2002, where it predates the implementation of many fundamental game mechanics. A client release of Disney's Toontown Online Beta 1 (sv1.0.5) was released on October 8, 2020. This build comes from Joe Shochet, a former programmer and project lead at Disney Online.

All of the content there will be compared with the first public release of the game on June 2, 2003. (sv1.0.6.4)

General Differences

  • Many of the menus are still in their basic state, such as the Shticker Book and loading screen.
  • The Toontorial was completely different, taking place in an instanced Toontown Central. Mickey Mouse welcomes you to Toontown, walks you through basic movement and ToonTalker, and guides you to the Trolley.
  • Toon nametags at this point were red instead of orange and then later on green. The player's nametag was of a less saturated red rather than blue and NPCs had blue ones instead of dark green and then orange.
  • Speedchat, called ToonTalker in this build works differently; rather than have a set of phrases, they could originally be made in the form of a sentence build consisting of words.
  • Street Names have not been implemented. Instead, tunnels state which Playground they lead to.
  • Toon HQs and Gag Shops have not yet been implemented. In their place stand unused shops.
  • Gags can only be bought from playing Trolley Games.
  • Treasures are represented by actual treasure chests rather than playground-specific objects.
  • Your Toon couldn't jump.
  • All instances of Cogs in the game were capitalized as "COGs".
  • Cogs didn't have types on their nametags and were coloured blue.
  • Toons didn't get logged off after they're left inactive for ten minutes.

  • Daisy Duck has not yet been implemented, and wouldn't be for a couple years after the game's launch.
  • There is a Tunnel leading to "Construction Zone", which is absent from this build.
  • The tunnel that would ultimately lead to Sellbot HQ is blocked off with a construction sign.

Minnie's Melodyland

  • A large merry-go-round with a horn base exists in the center of Minnie's Melodyland. The horn would later be replaced with Toon HQ, and the merry-go-round would be scrapped altogether with the introduction of fishing in sv1.0.8.6, released on November 14, 2003.
    • In sv1.0.5 in particular, the merry-go-round hasn't been implemented yet as walking on it will do nothing. The merry-go-round will then be added in sv1.0.7 and remained until sv1.0.8.6.

The Brrrgh

  • The pond in this iteration of the Brrrgh is a flat texture rather than a transparent layer in the final game.

  • The tunnel that would ultimately lead to Lawbot HQ is blocked off with a construction sign.

Donald's Dreamland

There are a LOT of differences between these streets and those in the final game, many of them being layout changes and building names that not yet had a "joke pass" from Jesse Schell. Get overhead render comparisons of them between this build and the 2003 release (before fishing update), along with some cosmetic alterations if there is any to be found.

  • Experience gained inside Cog buildings has gone up. Your experience gained on each floor is multiplied by the floor level.
  • Use chat or use the Toontalker to whisper to other Toons without anybody else hearing. You can whisper to anybody on your friends list or any Toon around you by clicking on them and selecting "Whisper" from the Toon detail panel.
  • You will hear automatic whisper messages whenever a Toon on your friends list enters or leaves Toontown Online.
  • Toons will no longer ask you to visit a Toon building that has been taken over by Cogs.
  • To make it easier to find other Toons for your tasks, their building names and street names will appear in the ToonTask description in the Shticker Book.
  • Teleport rewards have been added to the ToonTasks to give access to teleport to the different playgrounds.
  • There are now tasks to defeat Cog buildings.

New Issues

  • Existing Toons may not have all the gags they had prior to this update. You may also have more gags than are allowed for your Toon (for example, 30/20 gags). To clear this, die in battle to reset your gag count. You will then need to complete "ToonTasks" to open these tracks up again.
  • The ability to teleport to other Playgrounds from the map now needs to be earned as a reward, but you can always teleport back to the last Playground you visited, or to any friend.

We have not deleted any existing Toon characters, but we recommend you create a new character on your account to properly test the new ToonTasks.

  • This update's patches are relatively large because so much new content is included. Future bug-fix type patches should be much smaller in size.
  • Some ToonTasks require you to defeat certain types of Cogs, such as Money, Corporate, Sales, or Legal -- see What's New for more on this. It is not obvious in the current release which Cogs are which. This will be addressed in a future update. To help you, Money Cogs have green dollar signs on their outfits, Sales Cogs wear dark plaid, Corporate Cogs wear blue suits, and the Legal Cogs wear brown suits.
  • Some ToonTasks require you to visit a certain Toon in Toontown. A future release will inform you exactly which building that Toon lives in. For now, look for word clues, such as finding "Henrietta Hog" in "The Hog Wash."
  • Although the free chat box is always available, only your "secret friends" will be able to understand what you type -- see What's New for more on this. If you see other Toons barking or meowing, it is because you are not secret friends with them. Use the ToonTalker to tell them to use the ToonTalker.
  • Another upcoming release should include Trolley Game improvements, new interface artwork, whisper messages, more Cog interiors, new Toon interiors with props, ToonTask improvements, and other enhancements.   • Re-fixed bug that caused crash in certain cases when talking to the same NPC Toon twice in the same session.
  • If you Alt-F4 in the middle of a battle to avoid losing, the Cogs will take all your gags and you will end up sad in the Playground just as if you lost the battle.
