Found among the 2020 Game Boy lotcheck leak was an unreleased version of Castelian.
Differences
- The ROM header is "CASTELIAN HIRO". Hiro was the Japanese publisher of the NES and Game Boy versions.

- A helmeted knight is the protagonist. Notably, this character appears in early previews of the Famicom Castelian prior to it being rebranded as a Kyoro-Chan game, suggesting that this prototype is an early Japanese version.
- The music in all three versions is different from each other (the Kyoro-Chan music is entirely replaced; the two Castelians' differences are only slight).
