Level-5 World Reveal Trailer

Yo-kai Watch unveiled for the first time ever in the LEVEL-5 WORLD 2011 on October 15, 2011[1][2], which showed off the general theme and concept of what the game would be like. The animated trailer shows off changed-around elements such as earlier designs for Yo-kai and the overall setting, despite a few of the designs making it to the final product.[3] Only eight seconds of gameplay footage was shown off, which depicts Nate running down a pathway, looking into the main road. At the time of announcement, it wasn't said what console the game would be running on, the genre of the game or release date wasn't decided as of yet, but series director Akihiro Hino said that he has confidence in completing the project.

  • Most notably, the game originally was played with a first-person view compared to top-down in the final. That sort of view would not appear again until Yo-kai Watch 4.
  • Many of the graphics appear to be in an earlier and less detailed state, including simple texture mapping for the cars and vegetation.
  • Two NPCs can be seen in the playground area, where one of them resembles Alex. Additionally, NPCs of classmates are never seen moving around in the final game.
  • Jibanyan's idle animation is different.
  • The orange car isn't in the final game, but the yellow car may have been retextured into a different color.

The very first screenshot was shown in the presentation, which wouldn't fully surface until Weekly Famitsu Vol. 1198, and in Corocoro Ichiban January 2012 magazine.

  • There seems to be NPCs walking around the area, compared to the person sitting on the bench and Alex running around in the playground.
  • The camera looks more zoomed in on Nate, which may or may not have been done for a screenshot test.
  • Jibanyan seems to be no longer present in the crosswalk.

Character Designs

When the game was first unveiled, a few of the Yo-kai and characters were shown. Ake was the only Yo-kai design that stayed completely the same, while some other character designs looked different.

November

Some more information about Yo-kai Watch was released in Weekly Famitsu Vol. 1198, released on November 15, 2011. Aside from the coverage being a recap and for showing never-before-seen artwork of the Yo-kai Medal and Yo-kai Watch, it is confirmed that the player will be able to battle, collect and befriend Yo-kai.
