This page details pre-release information and/or media for Titanic: Adventure Out of Time.

The demo disc for Titanic: Adventure Out of Time, distributed under the title The Lost Mission, features a short playable mission and a screensaver, both showing content that was either cut or changed for the final game.

Demo

Inventory Items

Steamer Trunk Key

The steamer trunk key is a massive thing in the demo; a much smaller one took its place in the final game, while the demo model was reused as the key in Zeitel's briefcase bomb.

Photographs

The photographs are tucked into a pocket in your satchel in the final game. Since the photo with Conkling and Lord Lambeth has little relevance in the final game, it was changed to one of Willi and Claris. Another interesting thing to note is that these photographs are labelled in the demo, giving Zeitel the first name "Alfred". In the actual game, they're just referred to as Photographs.

Grand Staircase

Besides being an earlier render, the Grand Staircase also has two potted plants at the foot of the stairs

Clicking on the cherub and the clock also brings up different views. In the final game you can zoom in on them; in the demo, not so much.

There's no indication of the lifts in the demo, just an empty space where they should be.

The starboard vestibule off the landing of the staircase has no actual door to the gymnasium, although you can see some of the doorknob. The final version has a more visible door.

Boat Deck

This, too, is an older render. It features the alcove dividing the gymnasium and Grand Staircase doorways, which for some reason was cut out of the final render.

The older model also has the port-side door to the Grand Staircase in the wrong position. A door here would lead into one of the vents next to the boiler casing for boilers 3 and 4. (Also note at this point the signs are larger and more elaborate than in the final game.)

Secret Report

The secret report inside your steamer trunk is the same writing, just in a different format. The final version manages to cut it down by one page, but also introduces a typo in "United States" at the top of the report.

Map

An alternate map is used in the demo. Since the demo features significantly less of the ship than the complete game, the demo's map only covers A-Deck and the Boat Deck. The final maps are smaller.

Passenger List

Since there's no one around to tell you about the passengers, a handy note card listing the passengers on A-Deck is left on the table in your cabin. This is replaced in the final game with a First Class Menu. (Additionally, Carlson (you) is moved to C-73, Burns is moved to C-78, while Sasha Barbicon occupies A-14, which incidentally was the cabin of George Quincy Clifford, who is moved to A-27.)

Trailer

I may be mistaken, but it appears that Charles Lambeth was originally played by someone else, judging by these pictures.

The trailer also shows a brief snippet of the fencing minigame in the squash court. The final version of the squash court is much darker.

Screensaver

The screensaver that comes bundled with the Lost Mission CD-ROM is a valuable insight into parts of the game that were cut or altered.
