This page details pre-release information and/or media for Super Paper Mario.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? Notes: event demos, interviews |
This page or section needs more images. There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this. Specifically: comparisons |

Screenshots
- Mega Star Mario has a very different color palette from the final.
- The wedding structure in the wedding scene area isn't as decorated.
- Count Bleck did not have his cloak down in the early wedding scene.
- Count Bleck creates a basic white particle effect instead of a unique black one.
- Peach is not unconscious when Count Bleck creates the particle effect.
- Bowser doesn't have a shocked expression when Count Bleck creates the particle effect.
- Nastasia isn't behind the alter in the early wedding scene.
- The Koopa Troopas in The Bitlands still wear shades.
- Goombas were found in the underground area of The Bitlands rather than Gloombas.
- There was originally a ladder shaped Pixl that was removed in the final game.
- Tippi could be used during the big Blooper fight.
- The residents seen in one of the screenshots are unused in the final game's data.
- Peach's hair is down and isn't in a ponytail. Her parasol isn't properly transparent either.
Trailer
- The flowers in Lineland Road featured square petals, black outlines, and leaf silhouettes rather than circles attached to the stem.
- The damage indicators borrow their design and animation from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, rather than spinning/warping in place with a black outline and no drop-shadow.
- Coins sometimes fell through the ground rather than disappearing upon landing.
- Most Koopas on the hills of The Bitlands were red rather than green.
- The trailer shows the final Mega Star Mario, unlike the screenshots. This suggests that the trailer may depict a later build than the screenshots.
- Tippi's absence from The Bitlands sections also suggests the footage is from a later build.
- Whoa Zone looked slightly different and darker.
- Mario is seen wearing an astronaut helmet in Whoa Zone.
Interestingly, the trailer is called "GCN_Video_PaperMarioBros_trlr_01.mov", despite the game being referred to by its final name in the names and contents of the other E3 2006 press materials.

- Thudley initially had a transparent body, similar to other Pixls, instead of his opaque body seen in the final.

These demo kiosks were played on the GameCube. It is known that chapters 1-1, 1-4, and 3-1 were playable.
Fracktail Battle
- Frackles have not been implemented yet, and Squiglets are used in place of them.
- Mario's character icon in the menu uses the same 8-bit sprite the Mega Star form and Pal Pill copies use in the final game (which itself comes from Super Mario Bros.).
- Button icons from prompts and menu descriptions used GameCube graphics.
- The D-Pad is shown to access the Quick menu, with Left, Down, and Right opening the Characters, Pixls, and Items menus respectively.
- Entering certain doors or hitting Star Blocks would result in a Game Over, essentially ending the demo. This unique feature is still found in the final game's code but never used.
Early Chapter 1-1 On GameCube
This video shows an early version of Chapter 1-1. 8-bit character icons for Peach and Bowser are also featured.
