There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

IGN has images of the game during its development, and there have been both minor and major changes compared to the final released game:

  • Track designs have either been slightly altered or completely remade.
  • HUD was completely redone and the player's character portrait is no longer visible. There are also screenshots where the character portrait is a computer, which suggests maybe the game was running a demo.
  • Additionally, when the player performed stunts in the beta version, the character would make a face (shown here.)
  • In the cutscenes where the boss is talking to the player, the player's character portrait is no longer shown.
  • In the game menus, your currency runs as "Credits", but in the final version of the game, the cars in the shop have $ values, whereas the beta version just lists the number.
  • The car Scimitar is titled "Scimitar B" in the beta version, probably indicating the upgraded version of the car would be called "Scimitar A".
  • The car "Wild Truck" was changed to "Bumpkin". (Its upgraded version is called "Atomic Bumpkin".)
  • The car "Surf" was changed to "Surf South". (Its upgraded version is called "Surf North".)
  • The police car "Superfuzz" in the beta version was simply titled "Fuzz" in the final version. Only the upgraded version of the car is called "Superfuzz".

Character Portraits

Some characters portraits in the Opponents menu have completely different character portraits in the pre-race (Heat selection) screen. It is possible that these characters were redrawn in the final, but the developers forgot to change the pre-release portraits on the heat selection screen.
