An earlier player select screen is visible right on the back of the American box. It has Johnny Cage, Kai, and Sonya instead of Quan Chi, Liu Kang, and Tanya, respectively.
The box also has two screenshots showing Sub-Zero fighting Sonya and Kai fighting Sonya.
