Trailers

E3 Trailer

This trailer demonstrates the game on some early stages of development. The build used in this trailer is later, than Feb 24 2006 prototype, because there's already no cel shading from X-Men Legends 2, characters look close to the final version of the game, some cinematics are already made and etc. However, there are many interesting things to notice:

  • On 0:36 you can see some scrapped Wolverine's skin that isn't present in the game files and wasn't created in Feb 24 prototype yet.
  • On many points of the trailer you can see the first Helicarrier level. However, judging by the map itself and Scorpion in some unexpected places, this level was still the same as in the Feb 24 XBOX prototype.
  • On 0:45 you can notice some weird removed VFX of Elektra's power.
  • Doc Strange still has no cape, just like in the prototype.
  • On 1:18 you can see that Galactus boss battle is different. It looks similar to Feb 24 prototype, but already with some changes. It was unfinished in the proto, maybe it was already playable in the trailer build.
  • Trailer doesn't show any new characters that weren't present in the prototype.

PlayStation 3 Trailer 1

  • Wolverine's face looks different, plus he still has his brown jacket and Doc Strange still has no cape.
  • Blade is bald! He was bald only on his 4th skin, but this trailer shows a variation of his default skin!
  • On 0:38 you can see a Super Soldier from Omega Base levels wearing some star spangled clothes. This skin was used in the Feb 24 prototype and it looks like the devs decided to change Super Soldier at the very last moment.
  • Spider-Man's spin power on 0:49 is still the same as it was in the prototype.

Villains Trailer

It still uses Wolverine's, Blade's and Doc Strange's unused skins, but also demonstrates a different voice of Galactus.

Promo Trailer

This trailer has some unused prerendered game cinematics. It's unclear if they were made for this exact promo or they are indeed unused and initially could be in the game itself.

Interviews

There are several official interviews of the developers of this game. These interviews not only give us an information, but also show some additional previously unseen in other trailers footage of the game.

Official "making of" video for the game gives us an insight into the development. Some concept arts that weren't present as collectibles within the game might be briefly seen here. On 7:23 you can see something like a UI concept art.

There's more: one scrapped Ghost Rider skin of Zarathos can be seen in this video.

Scrapped Characters

Wii

Wii version could have some exclusive characters: Link and Samus. They even were made!

This model of link was also found in portfolio of one of the game artists:

PlayStation Portable

Judging by this model, Captain Britain could be a playable character in PSP version. There are even skins for the character!

CapBritainMUA.jpg

There are also similar model concepts for Vision and Ultimate Super Skrull. This version of Super Skrull was used in the Captain Marvel comic mission in the PSP version of MUA only, maybe it has some differences from the final version. This Vision's skin was cut and there's no proof that this character was meant to be playable.

Iron Fist and Longshot could be playable exclusives on PSP as well.

All Versions

Demogoblin (Hobgoblin) could be a villain in the game. There are some files related to him in the Feb 24 prototype and even in the released version, but David Lam, the game animator, shared a video on vimeo, where Hobgoblin's model could be noticed. It's still not Demogoblin, though...

Also in interviews it was confirmed, that Gambit and Psylocke could make it into the game as playable characters. They already were in X-Men Legends games, so it sounds fair. Punisher was planned, but couldn't make it, including the second game, due to licensing issue where THQ used to own the video game rights. Ultimate Mister Fantastic's lab coat skin was cut as well.

Cut levels

Hmmm...
To do:
I've found this info here, but it's really not enough. Needs further investigation, more proofs and sources.

It's known, that Baxter Building, F4 Satellite, Kree Empire and Negative Zone could be in the game as some levels or hubs.

Unused Loading Screens

Here are some scrapped loading screens created for the game:

Also some loading screens had more, than one version. Here you can see the comparison between the used and unused ones:

Both these Blade screens were unused:

Spider-Man on the cover could be different as well:

Also this art initially was used in main menu of early versions of the game. You can see it even in Feb 24 prototype.

Concept Arts

There are many different concept arts made for the game, that were found in portfolios of the game artists. You can notice the old prototype title of the game "Marvel Legends" on these concepts. You can see them below:

IronManMUAConcept.jpg UltronStrikerMUAConcept.jpg

SuperSoldiersConceptArtMUA.jpg SuperSoldiersConceptArtMUA2.jpg

Many other concepts were used in the game as unlockables.

On one concept art you can see Electro and even that cut brown jacket Wolverine skin. Electro isn't present neither in the files of the released version, nor in the prototype files.

MUA Electro concept art.png

On this concept we can see an unused Spider-Woman's Mattie Franklin skin (the second of these):

SpiderWomanMUAConcept.jpg

And there are 3 skins of elektra. The one in the middle is her default one. The one to the left looks like her Ultimate version, but for some reason her Ultimate skin in the game doesn't look anything like this. The version to the right is most likely Elektra from 2005 movie (at least looks very similar). Didn't make it to the game as well, which is a shame, it has a lot of movie costumes.

Screenshots

Prerelease screenshots can give us some additional information about the cut/changed content. First of all, did you notice, that Jean Grey in Murderworld had HUD picture of her Ultimate version, when she was actually Phoenix?

Jean Grey Final MUA.jpg

Here's the prerelease screenshot, that solves this mystery:

JeanGreyUltimateMUA.jpg

So, they actually used Ultimate Jean Grey at first, but then at some point of development decided to change her into Phoenix, but forgot to change the HUD picture... It's not even the only case, some other character HUDs weren't changed, when their outfits were changed. For example, Spider-Man's classic suit still uses the HUD with those big eyes, when the original picture from the loading screen was changed.

Also there are some screenshots of the DLC character Hulk and it looks much brighter and greener, than the final version of his model. I would say these are the screenshots of pastgen version and Hulk was meant to be playable on those old consoles too, but everything else looks pretty nextgen to me, so it's fair to assume the character model really was for some reason just changed into something mud-green like...

MUAbrightHulk1.png MUAbrightHulk2.png MUAbrightHulk3.png MUAbrightHulk4.png MUAbrightHulk5.png MUAbrightHulk6.png

Also there are some screenshots made either on Feb 24 prototype version, or later on, but before the cel shading was actually scrapped:

MUACelShading1.jpg MUACelShading2.jpg MUACelShading3.jpg MUACelShading4.jpg MUACelShading5.jpg

This screenshot is interesting as well. That's the only screenshot, showing that those comic sounds weren't scrapped in this E3 build version:

MUAcomicsoundproof.jpg

Of course there's also many screenshots, showing the levels very similar to their Feb 24 proto versions:

ProtoMUAOldLevel1.jpg ProtoMUAOldLevel2.png ProtoMUAOldLevel3.png

And there are some screenshots, showing the first design of Super Soldiers, capeless Strange and bald Blade. There's almost hundred of screenshots with brown jacket Wolverine and it doesn't make sense to put them here, but another funny thing to notice - Ghost Rider's skull is dark in Feb 24 proto and on many screenshots, but it was white in the final version and it was white even at the point of development, when Blade lost his hair and didn't get them back yet.
