Hmmm...
To do:
More prototype content leftover in the final game, as seen on the main page.

Early in development, the game was known as Mario Kart the Arcade, until the final name was revealed the 18th of February 2005. [1][2]

Earliest HUD

MarioKartArcadeGPBetaHUD.png
This texture in Diamond City shows an early HUD in three screenshots. The position originally indicated the number of players. The speedometer, total time and lap time aren't present. Finally, all UI elements except the item slot are mirrored compared to the final version (items on the left here are on the right in the final version, and vice versa).

Earlier HUD

This is the same one as before but the lap times and total time have been added. Some minimaps were also different back then. Additionally, Mario, Bowser, Wario and Donkey Kong all featured different, earlier emblems in these screenshots as well as the final game's attract mode textures for Mario's kart. The emblems in the final game more closely resemble those featured in Mario Kart DS, releasing around the same time as this game.

Early HUD

This is the same one as final except it lacks a speedometer, suggesting it was added late in development.
