An early version of the start-up animation was shown at the Planet GameCube E3 2001. It features different effects when the cube lands from its path. The different effects in this startup features a bit of movement when the cube lands (the cube going up and down from bouncing). The startup sound for the pre-release of the console is the same as the modern release of the console and was added in the video because the original video didn't have the startup sound.
