During development, the NES A Nightmare on Elm Street was a completely different game. It's not known if Rare developed this version or not.

An advertisement for this game features three screenshots from this early version. It shows two gameplay screenshots, one of which shows Freddy coming out of a faucet, and one screenshot showing a map screen.
