Pokémon Diamond and Pearl/Unused Graphics
This is a sub-page of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
Contents
Pokémon
To do: There's a TON MORE to add. |
Scattered within many NARC files is this early graphic of a Charmeleon.
Cherrim (Sunshine form)
To do: Rip the Animation |
Normal | Shiny |
---|---|
Cherrim's Sunshine form has an unused front sprite frame for a sending out animation, which is normally impossible to see. Cherrim always enters the battle in the Overcast form, even when the sun is already active.
Unused Back Sprites
To do: Add missing comparisons. Missing Deoxys, Burmy, Wormadam, and Cherrim, as well as Shiny Bronzor, Shiny Shellos, and Shiny Gastrodon. |
Many of these are carryovers from earlier builds of the game. Notably, Bronzor's back sprite is an earlier version of its front sprite, and Jirachi's back sprite here is cropped.
Textures
To do: The following is every tileset ripped from the game. Pinpoint unused tilesets from this. http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k13/Cyhunt/DPRipping/Allfiles.png |
Poké Mart
In the texture files of an unused Poké Mart model, there is text which isn't even used in the model.
Unused Texture Set
Within the game's texture files, there is a set of textures that go unused, and ultimately display unused graphics. However, these textures were displayed in some pre-release screenshots of the game, so it was likely that these textures were placeholders and were intended to be removed. The textures can be displayed in-game by reloading the graphics while in the Mystery Zone and then returning to the overworld. Interestingly, the dirt path tiles seem to have been shifted around in development, and the water tiles appear to animate incorrectly. The textures are identified as texture 0 within the game's coding.
Route 217 Snow Texture Set
In the textures that are used on Route 217 (identified as texture 14 in the game's coding), there are a few unused textures, one of which has what seems to be a placeholder for the bicycle stands that appear in Eterna City and Oreburgh City.
In that same set of textures, there is also unused textures for the lakes and their respective edges. However, only the center of the lake has textures; the edges do not appear to have any textures in the designated texture file. They may have been removed during development, or the developers may have made the main lake texture, but never finished the rest of the still lake texture in favor of creating moving water for Lake Acuity, which uses the same texture set.
Additionally, it has an unused path texture, a differently-colored version of the loamy soil for berries, and a slightly brighter edge around the puddles. The loamy soil texture would have gone unused mostly due to the fact that no berries would have grown in the locations where its texture would have been used, but it was never removed. They may have also been copy/pasted around during development to save time and then left in.
HUD and Menus
There is an early battle HP/status box stored in the ROM.
An unused leftover that matches the enemy HP box from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
A mirrored image stored with the trading interface sprites. When reversed, it says "1P Poké".
A series of drawn numbers also located with the trading menu sprites. They may represent each player's displayed party of 6 Pokémon.
Battle Graphics
The images in this section can also be found in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver and Pokémon Platinum's data.
Four frames that form an animation of a blinking duck, included with the in-battle move effect graphics. This may have been used for a move that would inflict confusion.
An unused image found with the in-battle sprites.
A list of four moves written in Japanese. They read "かえんほうしゃ" ("Flamethrower"), "ハイドロポンプ" ("Hydro Pump"), "みずでっぽう" ("Water Gun"), and "かいりき" ("Strength"). The text at the bottom of the image is "もどる" ("go back" or "return").
The Pokémon in Gen 4 that can learn Flamethrower, Hydro Pump, and Strength together are Gyarados, Bagon, Shelgon, Salamence, and Palkia. However, none of these Pokémon can also learn Water Gun-- thus, the Pokémon this moveset belongs to cannot be determined.

There's also a “localized” version of this sprite in the HeartGold/SoulSilver repo, accordingly named trgs_aneotouto_us

Overworld Sprites
To do: There are some sprites in the game still that match styles used in pre-release screenshots. Rip n' upload these. |
Ketsuban
Not to be confused with the infamous MissingNo., there is a placeholder 欠番 ("ketsuban", or "missing number") overworld sprite in the game written in red.
Unused NPC
A generic male NPC sprite that's never used in the game.
Unused Large NPC
Used | Unused |
---|---|
A different version of the larger NPC's sprite. The unused version looks more stretched-out, making the sprite seem...even larger.
Unused Rival Sprites
Sprites of the Rival either swimming or Surfing on a Pokémon.
Miscellaneous
Amongst the images used to show Vs. battle intros (such as those used when facing the Pokémon League), this overly-happy and crudely-drawn smiley face exists. This graphic also exists in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver and Pokémon Platinum, placed with the same set of graphics.
