Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time/Plants

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time.

There are many plants that have either gone unused or went through changes throughout development.

Unused Plants

Far Future

Ampliflower

This plant would have buffed other plants around it. The only info relating to it is in the old Far Future world map data, in which it would have been unlocked after beating day 8. According to Mark Barrett, it was scrapped because its concept was too complicated and overpowered. This was likely reworked into Moonflower from Modern Day, who boosts shadow plants around it.

Dark Ages

Scaredy-shroom

Scaredy-shroom was originally planned to return from the first game in Dark Ages, however it was cut from the game. It would later return years later in the 10.6 update as a Seedium plant.

Scaredy-shroom is a long-range shooter that hides when enemies get near it.

Placeholder sprites and animations for Scaredy-shroom exist in version ID 4, where it uses images of its PvZ 1 design.

Pult-shroom

An unused mushroom pult plant which would have lobbed more projectiles over time, with 1 projectile being added every 120 seconds and the amount of projectiles capping out at 3. Each of its spores did 40 damage, with its plant food ability doing 200 damage. The plants concept would be reused for Blooming Heart.

A video of the Pult-shroom in action. Note that the plant has been modded to use the graphics and animations of Cabbage-pult so that the plant would function properly. The plant has also been modified to significantly lower the amount of time it takes for it to gain another projectile, as usually it takes 2 minutes.

Roto-shroom

A mushroom that could be set to shoot at any direction the player wants it to, having 8 different possible directions. Each spore did 20 damage. When given plant food, it would shoot many spores in whatever direction it's facing, with the direction also being changeable mid-plant food. It costed 175 sun and had a fast recharge.

A video of the Roto-shroom in action. Note that the plant has been modded to use the graphics and animations of Peashooter so that the plant would function properly.

An image of Roto-shroom used as a placeholder in the Zen Garden, using the design of Fume-shroom from PvZ1 but with a longer barrel. It's likely that the barrel would have rotated depending on where the plant was set to shoot.

PVZ2 Rotoshroom Zen Garden.png

Dart-shroom

This mushroom could only be planted on the first five columns of the lawn. It would lob what were likely supposed to be darts at zombies in front of it, however these darts would follow a set motion and could only hit zombies that are around 3 to 4 tiles in front of the plant. Each dart did 33 damage. When given plant food, it releases many darts that would hit everything within 4 tile distance from the plant. It costed 100 sun and had a fast recharge.

A video of the Dart-shroom in action. Note that the plant has been modded to use the graphics and animations of Cabbage-pult so that the plant would function properly.

Zoom-shroom

This mushroom would've knocked zombies back to the very start of the lawn when they touch it. It would vanish after 10 seconds of being planted. It costed 50 sun and had a very slow recharge.

Vacuum-shroom

A defense plant that would suck up zombies in a 3x3 radius around it to go in front of it. It had 4000 hitpoints, the same toughness as a Wall-nut. When given plant food it would gain armor. It costed 25 sun and has a sluggish recharge.

Evil-shroom Speed

An unused plant that would later become the orange potions found in Dark Ages levels. When eaten, it would increase the speed of the zombie who ate it. It can also be tapped on 3 times to be destroyed. It costed 50 sun and had a sluggish recharge.

Evil-shroom Toughness

An unused plant that would later become the purple potions found in Dark Ages levels. When eaten, it would increase the toughness of the zombie who ate it. It can also be tapped on 3 times to be destroyed. It costed 50 sun and had a sluggish recharge.

Big Wave Beach

Bowling Bulb

Used to be called Coconut Bowler in 2.5.1, and pretty much worked how it does now, launching coconuts at zombies that bounce off of them and having 3 max coconuts. Coconut Bowler had a placeholder design using a missing image texture with 3 squares indicating how many coconuts it has left.

Banana Launcher

Used to be called Bamboom in 2.5.1, being based on a plant of the same named from Plants vs. Zombies Adventures. Also worked how it does now. Bamboom used a placeholder design consisting of a sun and text displaying what state it's in.

Lost City

Sun Pod

Like the Pea Pod, but with one head growing for every 500 sun saved up. It costs 300 sun and has a fast recharge. Note that in the video below, the Pea Pod design has been modded in so that the plant works, however in the Chinese version of the game Sun Pod uses Pea Pod's design.

Sun Gun

A single use plant that attracts sun and shoots it towards a zombie, with each shot dealing 150 damage. It costs 50 sun and has a sluggish recharge. Note that in the video below, the Magnet Shroom design has been modded in so that the plant works, however in the Chinese version of the game Sun Gun uses Magnet Shroom's design.

Non-world Specific

Sprout

This plant was meant to appear in the Zen Garden before a plant fully grows, like in PvZ1, but was reduced to only appearing upon initially planting a sprout. It was later given code for a scrapped mini-game where the player would plant sprouts before the level started. The sprouts in odd numbered columns would have a 50% chance to grow into a Sunflower and a 50% chance to grow into a Peashooter, and the sprouts in even numbered columns would have a 75% chance to grow into a Wall-nut and a 25% chance to grow into a Tall-nut.

Mini Peashooter

Shoots peas at zombies like Peashooter, but with each pea dealing 5 damage. When fed plant food, every Mini Peashooter on the lawn will create a duplicate of itself to the right. It costs 25 sun and has a fast recharge. Even though it has the Appease-mint family icon, it is not boosted by the Appease-mint. The peas are not affected by Torchwood or reflected by Jester Zombies.

Burnade

Knocks a zombie to the back of the lawn when activated, after which it despawns. The zombie then explodes after a few seconds, killing it and dealing damage equal to the zombie's health to surrounding zombies in a 4x3 area. When fed plant food, it gets 3 uses before despawning. It costs 0 sun. This plant uses Iceburg Lettuce's design as a placeholder.

Tactical Cuke

All that exists for this plant is his seed packet image. He would've blown up all zombies on the lawn when used. He would later be added as a powerup in the Chinese version of PvZ2. He would also be used in the Garden Warfare series and Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, albeit being redesigned to look more like a nuclear missile.

PVZ2 Tactical Cuke Seedpacket.png

Icy Currant

An ice variant of the Electric Currant. Like the Tactical Cuke, all that exists for this plant is its seed packet. It also was reused in the Chinese version of PvZ2 as a plant.

PVZ2 Icy Currant Seedpacket.png

Early Plant Data

Ancient Egypt

Bloomerang

The Bloomerang has an unused setting called "BoomerangStunsZombies" that is normally set to false, however setting it to true makes it so that zombies are stunned for a second when hit with a boomerang. This was likely removed due to it being a little overpowered, as having multiple Bloomerangs in a single row with this enabled would make it so the zombies in that row wouldn't be able to move much.

Pirate Seas

Spikeweed

Spikeweed has an unused effect animation of a buzzsaw. This was likely for an early Plant Food ability where it would launch these at zombies.

PVZ2 Unused Spikeweed Buzzsaw animation.gif

Early versions of Citron's attack and recovery animations, which have slightly different body movements, lack the computer lines inside Citron and lack the juice that comes out when attacking. All of Citron's animations were also made to be slightly lower. The animation was changed again to change the juice.

PvZ2:::Puff-shroom is deeply rooted in the social networking systems. His online favorites are Yeastbook and Funggit, but nothing beats the camaraderie of a Lawn Area Network of fellow Puff-shrooms.

Puff-shroom had early placeholder sprites and animations in version ID 4 of the game, where it uses images of its PvZ 1 design. The costume sprites here are from Sunflower.

Sun-shroom gives small sun at first, then normal sun later, then large sun even later.

[SUNSHROOM_TOOLTIP]

Early Sun-shroom description from 2.3.1, which oddly also includes its PvZ1 description.

[SUNSHROOM_DESCRIPTION]
{KEYWORD}Sun Production: {STAT}small, then normal, then large

{FLAVOR}PvZ1:::Sun-shroom hates sun. He hates it so much that when it builds up in his system,
he spits it out as fast as he can. He just won't abide it. To him, sun is crass.

PvZ2:::With a little more time and effort Sun-shroom know he could do better. He's pretty proud of those big suns he pops out, though he does feel a little bloated.

Sun-shroom also had placeholder sprites and animations in version ID 4, which are images of its PvZ 1 design. The costume sprites here are from Sunflower.

Sun-shroom's final design has unused Plant Food animations for its first and second stages, going unused as the plant normally goes into its third stage when given Plant Food.

Fume-shroom

Early Fume-shroom description from 2.3.1 which oddly also includes its PvZ1 description.

[FUMESHROOM_DESCRIPTION]
{FLAVOR}PvZ1:::"I was in a dead-end job producing yeast spores for a bakery," says Fume-shroom. "Then Puff-shroom, bless 'im, told me about this great opportunity blasting zombies. Now I really feel like I'm making a difference."

PvZ2:::"I think of myself as a pretty confident shroom and an all-around fungi," says Fume-shroom. "But sometimes I hear chuckles, and calls for 'Balloon-shroom'. I don't think they know how much that can hurt my feelings."

Magnet-shroom

Early Magnet-shroom description from 2.3.1 which oddly also includes its PvZ1 description.

[MAGNETSHROOM_DESCRIPTION]
{KEYWORD}Special:{STAT} removes metal objects from zombies

{FLAVOR}PvZ1:::Magnetism is a powerful force. Very powerful. Sometimes it scares Magnet-shroom a little. He's not sure if he can handle that kind of responsibility.

PvZ2:::Magnet-shroom is quite aware of his unconventional appearance, but he doesn't let it bother him. In his heart he knows he's the most attractive shroom around.

Magnet-shroom's properties has an unused array named "PullableZombieTypes", in which Bug Bot Imp is listed, implying it may have been planned to pull Bug Bot Imp to it.

Imitater

Imitater has an unused animation for being watered in the Zen Garden. Other instant use plants released at or before Far Future's release also had watering animations that were unused, however those animations were later used as their level up animation when levels were added. Due to Imitater not having levels, his watering animation remained unused.

Fire Peashooter

Fire Peashooter was originally supposed to be part of Dark Ages, as data for it was added when the world released and its home world was set to Dark Ages. It had a different design, being a recolored Peashooter, reusing its animations and even costumes. When given Plant Food, it would shoot a bunch of fire peas, like other pea plants at the time.

Other

Marigold

The Marigold has unused functions for being planted in a normal level. When planted, it produces silver coins and will eventually fall asleep. When fed plant food, it produces a burst of coins before disappearing. Its description used to be from PvZ as a placeholder.

[MARIGOLD_DESCRIPTION]
