Moonbase Alpha is a realistic simulator by NASA, which demonstrates a worst-case scenario involving the titular base's systems going haywire...
...if it involved John Madden trying to order pizza, tenors singing about baby diarrhea, Atari renditions of Funky Town, and dance parties like no other.
Console Commands
A cheat console exists in the game's files, a remnant of stock UDK for Unreal 3. It requires activation by modifying the game's ini files as shown below. It should be noted that cheat commands can only work on a server if everybody on it has the console enabled.
- Open the MoonbaseAlphaGame folder (which can easily be done by opening "My Games" in My Documents), and then open Config.
- Click on MoonBaseAlphaInput.ini.
- Find TypeKey=None and replace it with TypeKey=Tab.
- Save the file.
Now the command console is accessible by pressing the Tab key. Various cheats can be accessed through it, some of which have interesting effects;
Cheat | Effect |
---|---|
fov | Changes your field of view to any value you specify. |
open | Opens any map. |
fly | Makes you fly. |
ghost | Similar to fly but it disables collisions. |
teleport | Teleports you to where your cursor is pointed. |
slowmo | Changes the game's speed to any value that has been inserted. |
summon | Spawns the item that you define after the summon command. For example:(MBA_pawn,rover,hose,toolbox,beacon...) |
setbind | Sets any key you define to execute any console command. |
setname | Sets any word you define as your username in the game. |
spawncar | Spawns a rover. |
letmedrive | If two players are in a rover, their positions will swap. |
danceparty | Replaces every player animation with dancing. Multiple animations can be selected. |
win | Ends the session by making every player on the server automatically win. |
lose | Ends the session by making every player on the server automatically lose. |
sabotage | Destroys every coupler. |
acutedisaster | Forces a coupler into a critical condition. |
repaireverything | Fully repairs any damaged equipment. |
Cut Maps
Typing open MBATransition into the aforementioned console will take you to this basic looking test map which, aside from what is seen in the image, has nothing else to it. Given that you are never supposed to be here in the first place, there is also no map.
Typing open MBA_MADNESS into the console will take you to a nighttime version of the usual MBA_1_2 map. This version of the map cannot be accessed without the use of cheats. It has a special UI interface when you boot it up as seen above.
