Lunar: Silver Star Story is the first remake of the classic Sega CD RPG Lunar: The Silver Star. It follows the adventures of Alex, a young boy who dreams of following in the footsteps of a legendary hero.

The Saturn version was released twice; the second release, in 1997, features hardware-accelerated MPEG cutscenes along with some extra content and a few gameplay tweaks.

The 8x8 tiles used for the battle UI include an unused status effect, "のろい", or "cursed". This is present in both the original and Complete versions of the game, and unused in both.

Unused Items

The set of item strings in SYSTEM.DAT contains several unused items. Most of these are just placeholder names, though at least one item has a full description. None of these items have icons.

The English strings file in Lunar: Silver Star Story Touch contains non-generic descriptions for a couple of these items; it's unclear where those come from.

Developer Message

Both versions of the game have a file containing a developer message, located at TEXT/AR_BOOK.TXT in the original version of the game, and just AR_BOOK.TXT in the rerelease. It opens with an apology from a developer, explaining that they had hoped to have time to include subtitles for the voiced cutscenes; this is followed by a complete copy of the cutscene scripts.
