Hmmm...
To do:
  • E3 menu and more potential Japanese leftovers.
  • More regional differences.
  • Revisional differences (US V1.01 and v2.00)

Hot Shots Golf 3 is the first game in the series to be released on the PlayStation 2. Interestingly, it is the only title in the series to not be released in Europe.

Japanese Leftovers

Japanese Intro Cinematics

In the Japanese version, if the player waited long enough on the title screen, the game would play a short cinematic with the game having 3 cinematics in total outside of the main intro. While these cinematics are inaccessible in the North American version, they are still present in the game's files. The cinematics are not present in the Korean version's files.

Ayaka

Hmmm...
To do:
See if there are more Ayaka leftovers, including any potential leftovers in the Korean version.

Ayaka was a character in the Japanese version who appeared in the menus and she could be unlocked by reaching the King rank. She shared her character slot with Nanako (who was replaced with Tiffany outside of Japan) as an alternate costume. While Ayaka was never intended to be in any other versions of the game, she does still exist in the North American version and she can even be selected in the base game in the V1.01 version. By going to the National Tournament mode and inputting the code R?d!n6MttmHT, the player can select Ayaka by scrolling through Tiffany's alternate costumes. Selecting Ayaka will still play Tiffany's select quote. Ayaka's name is translated in various menus which could suggest that she may have been planned to be playable in the US version at one point. While Ayaka can be selected, she does not function properly in game as she is invisible during gameplay (due to her gameplay character files being removed) and attempting to swing a shot will result in the game softlocking.

Ayaka cannot be selected in the US V2.00 version using the previously mentioned code as attempting to do so will result in the player simply scrolling through Tiffany's costumes as usual. However, Ayaka is still present in the US V2.00 version in the same state as she was in V1.01. Ayaka also cannot be selected in the Korean version as National Tournaments were removed.

Ayaka being highlighted in the US version.
Ayaka's bio is present in the US version although it is empty. All of Ayaka's hole animations can be played.
Ayaka's title when starting a VS match is not translated.

Regional Differences

Title Screen

Japan US Korea
Everybody's Golf 3 - Title.png Hot Shots Golf 3 - Title.png Hot Shots Golf 3 - Title Korea.png

The North American version received a new logo to match the game's changed name in addition to updated copyright information. The title screen in the Korean version is mostly the same as the US version although it lacks the information on the trademark of the "Hot Shots Golf" name. The Registered icon on the "Hot Shots Golf 3" logo was also changed to a Trademark icon.

Menus

  • The book highlighting the continue option says "みんなのGOLF 3" (Minna No Golf 3/Everybody's Golf 3) in the Japanese and North American versions while in the Korean version, it says "Hot Shots Golf 3".
Japan/US Korea
Hot Shots Golf 3 book.png Hot Shots Golf 3 book Korea.png
  • The National tournaments exclusively uses Hirigana characters for its password system in the Japanese version while in the US version, the password system uses the full Latin Alphabet, numbers and Punctuation.
  • National tournaments were removed in the Korean version.
  • In the Japanese version, Ayaka will appear on the course select screen, regardless of the player's choice of menu character. As Ayaka is not present in the North American/Korean versions (nor does she have a replacement), the character who was present in the menus will appear on the course select screen.
    • Ayaka additionally had some dialogue and an animation when a course was selected. The base roster does not do anything unique when a course is selected in the North American/Korean versions.

Roster/Cutscenes

Hmmm...
To do:
Cutscenes differ between the Japanese and North American/Korean versions as a result of the changed roster.

The North American version has a completely different roster compared to the Japanese version with every single playable character and Caddy differing between the two versions. The Korean version uses the North American roster. Because of the different roster, every character has a different menu background and every cutscene differs between versions.

Intro

Japan US/Korea

As mentioned previously, the Japanese version has three extra short intro sequences featuring the game's cast. These intros were removed in the other versions although they still exist in the US version's files. Additionally, the first six seconds of the first extra Japanese intro were incorporated into the intro in other versions.
