Hard Time is a prison simulator created by MDickie, in which you experience what it would be like if you got sentenced to a prison for a crime. This being an MDickie game, the prison just so happens to be populated by professional wrestlers who can and will chokeslam you into oblivion at the slightest provocation.

A 2D remake would later be released on mobile devices on November 2013, with better character customization, the ability to play as a warden, and the addition of an explorable city.

Cheats

These following cheats can allow you to explore the game area more.

  • Holding the page up key allows the player to fly, allowing them to explore certain areas in the game that cannot be accessible.
  • Holding the left alt key along with the tab key, allows the player to switch characters.

Unplayable Characters

The Wardens themselves were never meant to be playable, however with the second cheat documented on the page, this allows the player to control the Wardens.

Their behavior is different, and they have restricted actions that they cannot perform: they cannot sort files, make medicines, make food, and build weapons to make money. The only way can make money is to use a broom. Additionally, the Wardens will only have a tucked in shirt for their attire. However using a mirror will actually let you have the shirt baggy.

Despite being a Warden, they are still treated as a Prisoner by the game. So the game will call them "Prisoner" or without any name instead, and they can still get arrested by other Wardens. If you manage to get convicted afterward, the game will crash upon returning to normal gameplay.

Additionally, while they can still join gangs, the Tattoos and special hat will not appear on them; the only way of checking that they are in a gang is to look up other characters using the computer.

Development Oversight

  • When you hire a prisoner who is asking you to while you are in a gang, a member who is a part of said gang will confront you. But they will end up being disbanded from the gang, rather than you being kicked out of it as they say to. This was later fixed in the mobile version.

Crash Handler

If the game were to crash, a crash handler pop-up saying "Memory access violation" will show-up.
