Gran Turismo 4 Prologue was created as a "sneak preview" to Gran Turismo 4 and also served as a consolation to the full game's release being delayed. It includes 50 of the over 700 cars that were in the fourth game, and only five courses. And again, like Gran Turismo Concept, it did not get an actual release in North America for some unknown reason. Except perhaps for a certain stripped-down Toyota demo...

Hmmm...
To do:
We got some work ahead of us, don't we?
  • Add more to the unused sections, as there sure is a lot.
  • Upload the images for the unused cars and tracks, as we sure need them.
  • Fix up the article a bit when someone has the chance. (add links to the games mentioned, maybe word some things a bit better, etc.)
  • Try to find any other special editions or versions and anything left out in them.
  • Note changes between this and the final GT4 release, such as the tracks used.
  • JP (and JP Prius demo) uses GT3 model format and later releases (including demos) use GT4 format.
  • JP has a narrator in Driving School.
For reference, interested editors can and should use this thread.

Unused Cars

Hmmm...
To do:
Also document which cars are accessible in which versions - the change from GT3 to GT4 model format seemingly wiped most of GTC leftovers.

Unused Tracks

Hmmm...
To do:
Actually put images or vids of the unused tracks

Normally in the game, the player can only access five tracks, which are: Tsukuba Circuit, New York, Grand Canyon, Fuji Speedway and Città di Aria.

Inside game's data there are many unused tracks that the player can't normally access, some of them are work in progress or leftover from previous entries; these tracks can only be accessed through memory editing, also it should be noted that most of these tracks can be accessed only in the asian releases of the game.

These tracks include:

  • akasaka: Tokyo R246.
  • capri: Costa di Amalfi.
  • deepforest: As seen in the 3rd game, with a few weird floating objects in the sky and some advertisement changes here and there.
  • grandvalley: Grand Valley Speedway.
  • highspeedring: Incomplete and unfinished. Uses the track map from Autumn Ring.
  • hongkong: Similar to the final release, in fact it looks finished.

Note: This is only the unused tracks that can be accessed also in the PAL version.

  • infineon: Infineon Raceway.

Note: the track is only available inside game's data of the Korean version.

  • laguna: Laguna Seca.
  • lasvegas: The drag strip used in the full release. Looking at the track map for this one, it appears to be longer here than the final. Also, the right wall doesn't seem to have many boundaries set yet, so you can kinda go through it.
  • L_grandcanyon4: This "license" tracks appears to be the tarmac variant used in the Gran Turismo Special Edition 2004 Toyota Demo.

Note: the track is only available inside game's data of the PAL version.

  • L_grandcanyon5: Unused license variant of Grand Canyon.

Note: the track is only available inside game's data of the PAL version.

  • midfield: As with Deep Forest, it has more similarities with its GT3 counterpart. You also go through the barriers here, as they're unblocked.
  • mini: Autumn Ring Mini.
  • motegi: Twin Ring Motegi.
  • nurburgring: Nurburgring.
  • nursnow: A half-built version of the Chamonix snow course, with some textures and backgrounds left unfinished.
  • paris_rally: The Paris street rally track, in an almost complete state here. The only things that are missing are a few barriers, some minor pop-in fixes, and different logos used on some of the track.
  • paris_tarmac: A slightly earlier version of Opera Paris from the full release.
  • route5: A very different version of Special Stage Route 5, using the wet variation and set at dusk. This version somewhat resembles the newer variation from the 5th game onward, featuring different buildings placed in other locations, and a similar tunnel.
  • route5r: Unknown variant of the route5
  • r_seattle: The only reverse variant of the track "Seattle".
  • seattle: Seattle.
  • ss_louisburg: One of the three photomode "tracks". Maybe it was going to also be a feature in this game, but it was instead shown in the full release. Similar to test2, everything is a black void, so not much can be done here.
  • ss_nanzenji: Another photomode track that crashes when you try to load it.
  • ss_sanmarco: The 3rd photomode track that's similar to ss_louisburg and test2, instead now there's people in the void. Neat.
  • test: What appears to be a very glitched-up Super Speedway set at dusk, as some of the road is cut up, things are missing, and some parts just pop into existence when you drive around. This was probably used for testing purposes only.
  • test2: It's unknown what this test track's purpose was, as it's literally a black void.
  • trialmt: Trial Mountain.
  • yosemite: El Capitain.
