Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is the sequel to Giana Sisters DS and also served as a rebirth for the series. The game has a new gameplay mechanic called "twist", which allows the player to switch between Cute Giana and Maria Punk Giana.
To do: The game seems to have hidden debug feature, such as a model viewer. |

Expansion Packs Few of them had potential. |
Unused Graphics
missing.tga
A texture meant to be used when a texture is missing, labeled as "MISSING".
none.tga
A placeholder texture labeled as "NONE".
dummy_texture_invisible.dds
A placeholder particle effect labeled as "Dummy".
vending_machines_bombs_c.dds
The texture of the scrapped Bombs Vending Machine. The model isn't present in the base game, but is in expansion packs - still unused though.
metalfloor.dds
A metallic floor texture. Unknown use.
giana_nodeath.dds
Partially used in the score screen after beating a level, right next to the death count. However, the left part with Punk Giana laughing is cut off in-game. A duplicate of the image exists as hud_i6b.dds.
Red and Yellow Gems
Unused | Used |
---|---|
You thought the gems were always meshes? Unfortunately you were mistaken. However, it did back in the demo of Project Giana. All small gems were models just like the Master Gem, so it needed to have textures for the red and yellow variants. In the final version of the game, they were replaced by a 2D texture and the appearance for the other variants are done with a hue change effect. This leaves the red and yellow gem textures unused.
A grassy platform, reeds and a mushroom, which are considered to be "interpieces". They are used in a GFX file called assetlibrary.gfx, surely meant for testing purpose.
project_giana_gamelogo.dds
The early logo of the game, a leftover from the Project Giana demo.
Unused Gameplay Mechanics
Purchasable Pink Star Gem
Inside hud.gfx, there are several graphics and strings that indicate the possibility to buy a Pink Star Gem (called shield in the file) with 100 gems. The player had to hold the crouch button in order to get a shield. It is unknown why the feature were removed, probably meant for another game mode or was unnecessary.
Could be some sort of screen pop up. The number of gems is set to 666 by default (could be a coincidence or a joke from the developers) on the left, a cyan bar hidden behind by another purple bar in the middle with a Pink Star Gem on the right. On the top is labeled "Hold [Crouch] to buy a shield". The bar could the gem gauge or a timer for how long the player needs to hold the crouch button.
A shield getting slowly filled. It could have the same function from the bar mentioned above.
Unused Models
Heart Gem
Model | Texture |
---|---|
A Heart Gem, which is a 3D version of the heart health bar used in boss fights. The health bar was probably meant to be in 3D instead of 2D, or it could be an early version of the Pink Star Gem.
Missing Model
Model | Texture |
---|---|
A cubical model labeled as "MISSING MODEL". Like its name implies, it is meant to be used when a model is missing.
Viewer Map
Model | Texture |
---|---|
A map, surely used for the model viewer. It uses another metallic floor as it texture.
Unused Sounds
Five identical sound files titled 005_dash_bounce.wav, 007_dash_repeat.wav, 017_giana_die.wav, 018_giana_dying.wav and 029_teleport_depart.wav. It has a quiet sound followed with 5 seconds of silence. These are placeholder sounds that were created before getting fulfilled and used. But these never got surely because they weren't needed or got replaced by others.
Five identical sound files titled 053_collect.wav, 053_collect_bigblue.wav, 053_collect_blue.wav, 053_collect_red.wav, and 053_collect_yellow.wav. These would have been placeholders for the diamond collecting sound, from when the game was still titled "Project Giana". It also implies that the diamond variants were meant to have different sound variants too; the red diamond would've had a cute tone and the yellow diamond would've had a dark tone.
Called 075_bigghost_kill_01.wav, 076_bigghost_aggro_01.wav, 081_bdarkghost_kill_01.wav and 082_bdarkghost_aggro_01.wav respectively. They meant to be used for the bigger variants of the phantoms. The bigger phantoms were scrapted during development so does these sound effects.
171_giana_cute_pain_03.wav
A different version of the sound effect for Cute Giana getting hurt.
179_vo_cute_giggle_02.wav
A different version of Cute Giana giggling. It likely went unused because it sounded too annoying, unlike the others.
Called 202_vo_cute_boss_01.wav, 202_vo_cute_boss_02.wav, 203_vo_punk_boss_01.wav, 203_vo_punk_boss_02.wav, and 203_vo_punk_boss_03.wav, respectively. They were probably meant to be used when Giana defeated a boss.
Giana and Maria giggling, named 218_vo_outro_giana.wav and 218_vo_outro_maria.wav respectively. They were meant to be used after Punk Giana saved Maria from Gurglewocky. It's also Maria's only voice clip.
Unseen Objects
To do: If it's possible to create a free camera movement mod, try to look for hidden areas that can't be normally seen. |
If you somehow manage to break the collisions with Cheat Engine, you can go out of bound. In Mysterious Meadows, by twirling and going to the far right of the map, you can find a lava lake outside the skybox. It is unknown why the developers left it here.
