Development:Rugrats: Search for Reptar
This page details development materials of Rugrats: Search for Reptar.
The original design document from November 3rd, 1997 was bought from lead designer Jason Eastman and can be found here.
The Rugrats Movie
The game was made to tie in with The Rugrats Movie and the developers at one point considered using the movie as a basis for the game, but decided to base it all on the show instead. Despite this, a couple of references to the movie can be found in the final game.
Cut Levels
The document contains an early list of levels, most of which didn't make it into the final game. These levels include:
- Give that Spike a Bone
- Naked Tommy
- Baseball
- Vacation
- Angelica's House
- The Inside Story
You can see a note left about making Reptar 2010 the final level, which it ending up being in the final game.
Give that Spike a Bone
The only cut level with a detailed description is Give that Spike a Bone.
Cut Characters
The following are listed in the non-playable characters section:
- Drew Pickles
- Charlotte Pickles
- Charles Finster Sr.
- Betty DeVille
- Howard DeVille
- Boris
- Minka
- Dil Pickles
They do not appear in the final game, especially confirmed by the fact they also seem to be crossed out with pen.
