Hmmm...
To do:
  • Revisional Differences? An "earlier" set is listed in MAME but I'm not sure what the differences are.
  • There are three prototypes currently listed in MAME that should be investigated.

Daioh, which translates to Great King, is a neat vertical shooter by Athena and is typically considered one of their better titles.

Gameplay

  • The Japanese version uses a traditional two-button setup, with one button firing and the other using a bomb. The three different weapons can be switched by picking up their respective colored pickups (red for Vulcan, blue for Lightning Laser, and yellow for Missile Shell). Each weapon also has a unique bomb associated with it.
  • The US version changes the controls and goes for a six-button Street Fighter II-style configuration. Every weapon and bomb type is mapped to each of the six buttons. The different colored weapon pickups are still in the game, but they now always award 5,000 bonus points and don't switch the player's weapon.
