This is a sub-page of Cookie Run.

마그마맛 쿠키, translated in English as Magma Cookie, was the original concept for Fire Spirit Cookie and first appeared in the files of Cookie Run for Kakao, the Korean version of the game, in late July 2014. The idea of Magma Cookie was scrapped in favor of Fire Spirit Cookie, despite having a complete spritesheet which was later overwritten by said character, with remaining leftovers of Magma Cookie being removed over time.

History

In late July 2014, multiple players of the game who datamined active in a Cookie Run Naver Cafe group "쿠키런 대표 카페" found that the iOS version of the game had downloaded a spritesheet for Magma Cookie, as well as an effect spritesheet and jelly for the Cookie; under the internal ID of "ch41", which would later be used by Fire Spirit Cookie.

Assets

Spritesheet

CR Magma Cookie.png

Like all assets in the game, there are 2 versions of Magma Cookie's spritesheet: an SD (ch41) and HD (ch41x2) version. The original resolutions for the sprites are confirmed to be 2048x512 and 2048x2048 pixels respectively. They were only downloaded in iOS versions of the game in the 4.80 version range. The original version of the spritesheets are considered lost media, as no surviving copies of them are known to be publicly available online; leaving only screenshots of them to exist.

Effect

CR Magma Effect.png

Magma Cookie has an effect spritesheet titled effect_2_ch41.png that reused red hue-shifted ice effects from Snow Sugar Cookie. A proper version of Magma Cookie's effects was never created, leaving this placeholder. This was removed after Kiwi Cookie was released.

Jelly

CR Magma Jelly.png

Magma Cookie has an associated jelly titled jellybean_ch41.png in the playing_jelly spritesheet. No data for this Jelly was ever published, though it distinctly uses a recolored version of Purple Candle's Jelly, which is similarly titled "jellybean_pet41.png" internally. Despite Magma Cookie having most of the data related to her removed, the jelly remained in the files indefinetly and is present to this day.

In-game Data

CR Modded Magma.png

Magma Cookie's data was never completed, but some data was published and found by fans. When hacked into the game menu, Muscle Cookie's shop sprite will be used for Magma Cookie (though the screenshot provided is innacurate). The Cookie's story text read "문구 필요", and the ability description read "마그마그". The Cookie was also listed as an S Grade Cookie and is considered to be female. Magma Cookie would have been unlocked by scoring 2,000,000 points in a single run.

Interestingly, some placeholder data for Magma Cookie is present in version 4.84 of Cookie Run for Kakao and can be accessed by editing the libgame.so file on the Android version. This placeholder version of Magma Cookie uses Muscle Cookie's graphics and sounds and has no ability. Magma Cookie's only 2 loading quotes are "마그마그" and "추운".

Removal and Legacy

When Cookie Run for Kakao was updated to it's fifth season, New World in version 5.01, Magma Cookie's spritesheet was overwritten with a sketch version of Fire Spirit Cookie's spritesheet. For some time, the effect and Jelly sprites remained despite having no use, and were eventually removed from the game.

Several posts online asking what happened to Magma Cookie would pop up in the Korean side of the Cookie Run fandom, though these would die down and Magma Cookie would become forgotten by the general fandom. The original spritesheet and plists have become lost media and only 1 known person is known to have possessed them in more recent times, being XsF1re, a member of the iOS Jailbreak community, under the alias of "겜톡구경꾼". A series of blogs by this user detail their modding efforts for Cookie Run for Kakao and notably feature multiple blogs as well as a video of Magma Cookie's sprites being used over Pistachio Cookie.
