Contra Force is a rather sluggish run-and-gun game that originally had nothing to do with Contra to begin with - it was first announced as "Arc Hound" for a 1991 release in Japan, only to be cancelled and renamed to Contra Force for an American release in late 1991 as the third entry in the series. This version ended up being delayed, resulting in the intended Contra IV being renumbered and released as Contra III: The Alien Wars.
Unused Graphics
Burns was meant to throw the grenades instead of firing them from his gun. The animations are actually implemented, but no such sprites exist for the overhead view stages.
There are unused graphics for the enemies getting ready to fire at the player.
